game file download problem

i have a members account and just bought forge of freedom. i cant seem to get onto the ftp server from the FOF area for any of the 3 files in the private download area or even at the general patch menu. the load bar at the bottom starts; slows; and grinds to a halt about half-way.
i have disabled pop-up blocker and that doesnt help. i have a cable connection so the file sizes arent daunting.
any ideas?
