Unexpected error, quitting

I just loaded PS07 on a new vista laptop using v 1.0 and updating to v1.6. Everytime I hit the play button the game does not load and instead I get the following message - "unexpected error, quitting". anyone know what this is or how to fix?
Never had a problem using v1.51 on an XP system.
Thanks!

Not sure what the problem is but I would suggest making sure you have all vista updates loaded and maybe your graphics driver updated.

Right-click on the icon, then go to Properties. There will be a tab for "Compatibility", much like there was for XP. Select that and you'll see "Run As Administrator" (or something of that nature) as a check-able option.
Enjoy!

I am also having a problem getting PureSim to run on a new computer with Vista.
After getting the same symptoms robo44 got, I searched this forum, found this thread, and followed the instructions Shaun referenced.
I modified the properties of the 1.5 installer, ran it as an administrator, and it appeared to work.
I then modified the properties of the 1.6 installer, ran it as an administrator, and got the following message:

I then modified the properties of the Game Menu and Quick Start shortcuts, launched Quick Start, and got:

Do you have a file named
dx8vb.dll
In your Windows\System32 folder?
If so run a command prompt (as administrator) and try this command:
regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\dx8vb.dll

No such file. I (supposedly) have DirectX version 10.0.

Hmm. PureSim should install that file if its not present.
PureSimDX.dll depends on it being there, hence the error you are getting. I will install a brand new copy of Vista on a test machine and see if I can duplicate this.
In the interim, I have uploaded a copy of the DLL:
Download http://www.puresim.com/dx8vb.dll
Grab this copy and then place it in your \windows\system32 folder. Next run a command prompt (as administrator) and enter the command:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dx8vb.dll
Then try re-installing 1.60 one more time.
Sorry for the trouble but this is somewhat isolated as there are tons of people (including myself) running PureSim 1.60 on Windows Vista. Hope we figure it out soon!

However, when I follow the rest of the instructions and re-install 1.6, the program launches with the following:

From the looks of that error, I don't think you are running the cmd prompt as administrator.
In order to run the command prompt as an administrator click on the start menu them right click on command promt and, "run as administrator" then try the regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dx8vb.dll command again.
At least you are up and running but I'd love to get this last one to go away.

Once I got the command prompt to "run as administrator", that fixed the problem. Still getting used to all of the nuances of Vista, but on my setup "Command Prompt" doesn't appear in the list that pops up when I click the "Start" button. I tried right-clicking on "Run ...", but that didn't accomplish anything. To get the error in the previous post, I logged on to an account with Administrator privileges and ran the command from there, but that didn't seem to get the desired result.
I had to go back to the user account, click on "All Programs", then "Accessories", then right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator".
But it's fixed. I set up a quick association using the "Learn to Play" template, managed a game, and got the national anthem, the fireworks, and the crowd noises.
Thanks for your help, Shaun. And thanks to Microsoft for creating these complex puzzles to keep us old-timers intellectually sharp ... [8|]

Excellent!
I'm glad you are 100% up and running. Vista is a bit disorienting at first, but I have really taken a liking to it.
