Hi,

I was just playing the Kiwis Fight Back scenario from the Allied Side. Got 2 battalions onto the airport and had it under control, or at least contested since day afternoon. Funny thing is, that the Gebirsjaegers still managed to land at the airport even though it was nowhere near German control.


My question is, if this is as designed, or should the reinforcements have been blocked?

I think you will find that this IS what happened historically. The game controls it by making the losses very heavy if the drop zone is not controlled.

Not many of the initial JU52´s that landed ever took off again. The burned out wrecks on the runway also prevented furter landings. I belive a German captain landed with a 109 on nearby beach to get a closer look at the airfield, as well as guiding in a couple of JU52 on the same beach strips as well.
The airfield was not under german controll until the brittish commanders made the mistake to belive that they had lost, and withdrew.

thanks, i was under the impression that in RL the NZ troops only controlled the eastern side of the runway and the the junkers landed short on the other side, under mortar fire. That's why, when I controlled the entire runway, I expected to not have them land at all. But, if there are heavy losses I guess it goes some way to addressing the issue, I did get a decisive after all [:D]

Historically, the German orders were to land no matter what. This they did and yes they took a lot of casualties but it was without a doubt the decisive event of the battle. The additional troops brought in turned the tide in favour of the Axis.
