A Freebie Empire-Building Game

Stumbled upon this the other day. For a program that only takes up 5 MB or so, there's a lot to it. Played it three times on "easy" level, and still can't win.

It's called "C-Evo". See the wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-evo

The link to the download site is located on the article page.

Since it's not a for-sale game, but an open-source completely playable game, thought it was OK to mention it here.

If you're a Star Wars geek, there is a version of the same game downloadable from the site set entirely in the SW universe, as well.

Both versions are pretty good. And if the vanilla game is too easy/hard, you can download a bunch of different swappable AIs to play against.

Yeah I got that game not long ago myself. I like that you can swap in and out different AI's and the AI's are darn good. They actually now race to space at least instead of allowing me to build my spaceship first in the vanilla Civilization games. The AI is ruthless and you can pretty much forget about diplomacy or use it just to gain you some time haha (about 1 turn in most cases lol /sarcasm) (it does play more like a wargame instead of a civilaztion game, but, that's kewl when you're looking for a wargame of civilization with a good ai). This would be a great feature for all games having removeable or replaceable AI's that players can make. It's one of the reasons I like Spartan and Kohan series. I can make my own AI values. In Kohan I can even determine the aggressiveness. Spartan I can do the same but not in the same nature as Kohan, but, I can make every nation in Spartan hate me from the start. ;)

Ah...Kohan: AG is still the best RTS imho...Its a shame that Kohan 2 [KoW] was kinda different, and many of the old KAG players refused to play with it...KAG 2. would be awesome to have! [:)]

You didn't like Kohan 2?? Wow I could make a more awesome ai in Kohan 2 than I could in the origional version. Look for my Ravinhood Nightmare AI at RAVINHOOD's KILLER AI it's still listed as a very challenging ai there. ;) I actually made it to beat all other ai's everyone was making. Sort of an ai challenge game we were playing. it just turned out my ai was simply awesome and it even beats me sometimes and I frickin know how it plays. lol

Ah Kohan... I wish I knew where I placed the CD. Never got Kohan 2, though, demo kinda scared me off. Still playing Dominions 3 RH? Maybe you could tweak a bit with that AI, cause the vanilla one is a bit idiotic.

The file for the AI in Dominions III isn't as user friendly as Kohan or Spartan. I have to have a template already built then I can probably do it. Writing an AI from scratch when I don't even remember how to write basic is rather hard for me nowadays. lol If there's a prebuilt template (the developers from the Kohan game gave us one) though and if I can figure out what the developers used the varibles for I can change the ai into a pretty challenging bit of fun. Where developers try to make an AI do too many things I tend to focus on having the ai focus on doing one thing, beating the player. Go after the human player. Do everything to ruin the human players ability to win. My Kohan ai if it's spots an inkling of you then it comes after you full force from three directions. It even feints to draw you out and then come in from two other directions haha.

I just wish developers weren't so tight lipped about what variables do in their ai scripts or files. You have to ask them point blank to explain and then some still won't tell you. So, I have to play 100 (exaggerated) games of trial an error to figure them out.

You really should get Kohan II I'm sure it's dirt cheap now. It's really much better and more streamlined I think I like the way encircling forts are built instead of those placement forts you build in KAG. The whole game is more streamlined and much faster to play I think. I enjoy it a lot. It's also much BIGGER than KAG when you create random maps. The game play is basically the same. Plus then you can download my Ravinhood AI and try to beat it. lol

One note about you KAG multiplayers, you're too picky, when I've been there I've seen players not taken or booted because they didn't know what they were doing. When MPers act like this you'll never get a growing thriving community. You should accept all players and forget that childish attitude of must win at all costs must get stacked team. I see that enough in Guild Wars lol. Reject nobody unless they are an A$$hat and that means mouthy. Not because they are new or don't understand the game. Remember you are suppose to be there as role models to teach new players as well as compete against older ones.
