Action Cards?

Evening Gents,
This question may have been already asked, but what differing Action Cards do we have to look froward to and can Action Cards be edited or new ones added? Again, forgive me if this has been mentioned already. Also, are Action Cards randomized depending on the scenario? Best Regards, Arditi

Another thought, can we edit a game to have Action Cards awarded for capturing cities?  I think that would be cool.

All action cards have to be written into a scenario. You must write an event. Vic already posted a picture of the event editor in the original screen shots. Here is an example of an event that gives a player an action card and how it works.

The top box shows all your events. This event happens to be the 55th in the scenario. It is in Europe 1939 scenario which deals with the fall of France. Over on the side, it says that this is a turn check. This means that the event is checked every turn. If Germany captures Paris, this event will trigger before the Western player has a chance to respond.

The box below is the event script. There are buttons that allow you too select different checks and execs. There are dozen of checks and execs and the scripting gives you a lot of flexibility. Basically, this event says "If Paris (hex(24,23)) is captured by Germany for the first time (regime 0), then give Germany action card 33 (which allows Germany to establish a Vichy regime) and send a message to Germany so that it knows it now has this card."

Am I correct, that the AIs cant handle the action cards? I mean if you script something like "Player A" - played by the AI will capture "Town X", "Player A" will receive an action card. However, if it is played by the AI, the AI won't use the action card. I think ive read something like this in an other topic.

Yes. This because it will be impossible for the AI to judge what the actioncards will do. It is possible though to make events that let the AI play such an action card.

What is the difference between an event and an action card?  Can you do things with one that you can't with the other?

Events are pieces of scripting that scenariodesigners can make.

Action Cards are literally cards that are given to players in game and that can be played at any time / or for a certain action point cost. The existence of these Action Cards allow scenariodesigners to script all sort of custom circumstances: "Play Card to fire Herman Goering" for example or "Play Card to make piece with Stalin in exchange for Eastern Europe"

Vic and the guys can give you the official answer, but I'm thinking an action card is simply an event that will occur when the player chooses. Other events happen at a certain time, or when some predetermined thing happens (like capturing a city), but "action card events" happen when the player decides. This is what I'm thinking anyway.

Nicely phrased!

That would be really cool...of course, it would't be too cool if one player received all the cards...maybe it could be set up so that each player receives an equal number of random Action Cards...hmmm...

You can select which ruleset the random game generator should use. So if you make a new ruleset with events in it that randomly hand out predefined action cards it is possible yes.
