The demo is very good, the tutorial covers basic game mechanics and is easy to follw. You also are allowed to play the first 12 turns of the grand campaign.
I bought the game strictly because of the demo. It gave me what I was looking for in deciding between this game and Forge of Freedom, which does not include any demo.
AACW is a great game, you will soon find out for yourself.

The demo represents the full game all its missing is scenarios and bug fixes. If you enjoy it, you will certainly will buy it.
I spent alot of time in the demo, learning the game and mastering it. I then bought it and now having a blast with the full campaign, worth every penny.

Demo convinced me. I have hardly touched another wargame since purchasing this. Even if you don't have a zealot's interest in the ACW era this is one of the most fun strategy games I have come across in a long time.

Regards.

The demo convinced me that I won't live long enough to figure this one out. It's well designed but I'd need a staff to keep track of everything.

LOL same here.  I played the demo for a few days and then bought the game.  Not a single regret.

What demo?  I bought it because of peer pressure.

Actually, after you play it awhile it is much easier to understand. It's that first look that overwhelms you.

Agree Gray_Lensman, it is VERY confusing at first, but the more you have it it, the more things seem to come together.
I must say this game is taking up most of what is left of my free time at the moment.
So much to do, so little precious time.[&o]

I am still debating if I want to buy the game. At first, when I saw the pictures I thought to myself that it looked childish. I am rethinking what I my first impressions. I downloaded the demo and I am playing with it right now. Like everyone has said, it's overwhelming at first, so I will keep playing with it and see how it feels to me. Stay tuned.

I'm working through the tutorial now. It is immensely helpful to me. I would have had no clue how to do a lot of this if not using the tutorial while simultaneously flipping back and forth from the tutorial instructions in the PDF file.

Make sure you check out the AACW Wiki page too, as it's probably the most up to date source of info.

Considering the rate updates have been pushed out, sometimes the manual can be a bit behind. :)

Will do, SpharV2.  I just beat the 1st tutorial!  I am unsure why people think this is so overwhelming.  The interface is really very simple except for maybe the construction of Units.  Everything else seems pretty intuitive.  I must admit I have played other war games that people thought were overwhelming as well.  I am about to try bigger challenges like the 2nd tutorial or maybe a real battle.

I notice that the demo download is version "1.05d" which is causing me some problems. The Windows OS on my machine is originaly built with traditional Chinese as its base language, and this doesn't allow downloads where the code has accents "a' la Francais". The support threads made reference to this problem and stated that the demo would be patched to a "1.05e" version which had eliminated the accents from coding. Is this updated demo available?

Not sure.  I'd check the AGEOD forums, not sure if there's anything newer there, but it's worth a shot, or you can probably get a quicker answer when it'll be ready.
