I know you animal lovers would be interested in hearing. An attempt was made to have a law inacted to force everyone owning a cat or dog in california to spade and nueter their pets. It was shelved. After such an outcry (large number of pet owners) the sponsor of the bill dropped it like a hot potato.

Don't mess with pet owners[:)]

Neuter all pets, and all pet-owners. It's the only humane way. [:D]

Bought our two cats in NY. First one required a criminal background check and a waiting period to purchase. It was already neutered. Second was not neutered and we had to sign papers that we would neuter it within 30 days, which we did. I asked why all the laws...was told they protect the animals from being purchased for use as a sex toy, live target, or food by scumbags. The neutering helps abate the problem with feral cats caused by irresponsible pet owners.

"a sex toy, live target, or food by scumbags" WoW! Never would have come up with those reasons in a hundred years. But leave it to the wierd humans to take pet loving to the limit.

Before all the do gooders started interfering, kittens were cheaper than bologna.  Now what am I supposed to feed my pet alligators?

Coyotes take care of the ferral cat problem around here. Black kittens seem to survive better.

AIUI the bill provided for breeders or those so inclined to pay a $500 fee to keep their pets fertile. Most of the people that can't afford the $500 probably don't need to have fertile pets anyway. The ones that can afford it are probably paying the taxes that support the shelters, euthanasia, and disposal costs. IIRC these costs were huge.

Just as a side note: it is spay and neuter (past tense: spayed and neutered). [:)]

My wife and I trap stray cats here in our neighborhood and pay for the surgeries ourselves. No one else does anything about the cats so we do it [:)]
