The quest for liberty just got a whole lot better with some AI improvements and tweaks in this latest updates
Matrix Games and Hussar Games (
www.huszargames.hu) are proud to announce that they have completed and released a new update for
For Liberty! This latest update file will bring fans of the turn-based American Revolutionary War title several tweaks and a variety of AI improvements in tactical battles, especially withdrawal logic.
David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said "We're happy to continue to support the For Liberty! community with more updates and improvements to this addicting game. Matrix Games and Hussar Games are both committed to providing players with the best possible gaming experience through updates and improvements."
For Liberty! is a turn based strategy game covering the American Revolutionary War from 1775 - 1783 and the Hungarian Rakoczi Independence War - the eastern theater of the War of Spanish Succession from 1703 to 1711. Giving the player unprecedented options of command and control, players are able to take part in as much or as little of the fighting as they desire. A large variety of units can be ordered to attack, recon, retreat, train, rest, pillage, siege enemy forts, fortify important locations, and more.
Furthermore, players are also charged with logistical concerns like paying and supplying their troops and maintaining morale. Political decisions and foreign aid are simulated by an influence system that players can use to change the strategic situation. Ultimately,
For Liberty! provides a great mix between realism, historical accuracy, and playability. This combination gives wargamers and history buffs just the right amount of everything necessary to make
For Liberty! a great gaming experience.
This update is comprehensive and will bring the game up to version 1.80.

First class! Thankyou.
EDIT: Oh, bloody hell! The patch requires the serial number. That I no longer have... I initially purchased the game from Battlefront, and I did upgrade when the switch to Matrix happened. But no 1.80 action for me. Bah.

I will buy this game very soon. I`ve always liked the period.
I like to wait until a patch or two, sometimes a few [:)] come out for a game. That´s done now.
It also seems people on this forum like it a lot so I think I`ll be pleased. [:)]

Yes - if you like this period of history; the game certainly has an 18th century feel to it.
I thought it was a solid game with the 1.75 patch. Playing last night it seemed the enemy would retreat sooner than with the 1.75 patch. It has a demo, but the sale ends on the 21st.
On a side note I was thinking of picking up W.P.O.

Be aware the game won't work in SLI mode, if that's what you have.

Allow me to defend the game makers a second....[:D]
Only because I´ve seen some people who have bought the game and complaing the game don't work on their system.
There is a
DEMO...a DEMO...D-E-M-O.
Try and see if it works on your system before you buy it.[;)]
Also there is 1848 they made to try and it`s free to see if you like the game engine.

edit-Just wish they would have made it with a 800x640 resolution option.

I upgraded to 1.80, all works well except for one big problem. I can't do tactical battles manually. A small window pops up that says "Liberty", beneath it is a red circle with an X through it, to the right of that is says "Division By Zero" and then an 'OK" button to click. After clicking the "OK" button it returns to the main game window but with the main map portion blacked out and the little stop watch icon running, but the watch never stops, I have to exit out of the game entirely. Somethings not right. All other aspects of the gaem work fine, even auto resolve battles. Any ideas what's wrong? I run on Windows XP, ATI RADEon 9200 SE graphics card. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with the 1.80 patch so I've yanked it and gone back to 1.7

Glad I read all this before I installed the 1.80 patch. Any idea what's the matter with it?

Installed patch 1.80, ok - does not work with saved games, so a new campaign battle. Tac battle works. However after a (F5) quick save - and reopened to a new tac battle - message error. What? No one tested this first?

Yes EVERYONE...don't install that 1.80 patch, it is broken. You can still find 1.75 though. It works.

Thanks for the feedback! We are looking into this problem right now, expect a patch real soon! Hopefully later today.
As for the SLI problem: we have reports that the game is working with SLI cards, you just need to disable SLI. And there is always the demo, you can try it before you buy.
Thank you! Gotta go work on that fix.

Here's the list of changes for the new mini-update, we're hoping we can get this out by the end of the day:
- Added 'Retreat all units' button to tactical battles. Effect: all your units will move towards the map edge in the turn. If you want to micromanage units, move them before clicking this button
- Tactical battles crashed in the first turn played in 1.80 - fixed in 1.81

This is nice. I just got this game and have so far only had to move all my units one at a time off the board once. Yeah...it was tedious.[>:]
So this is a plus.
