Right..., because she and her sister used up enough steel to built six of those worthless aircraft carriers. ( I say worthless because the IJN didn't have enough trained pilots to man the planes and carriers they had on 12/7/41..., so what good would any more be?)

Or even 100-odd decent ASW Escorts? Do have to point out that in the above quote it really should say "how many bad SMG's could'a been made" as the Japs never designed or produced a "good" one.
But even a million "bad ones" might have been a better investment.

It show how quickly military technology changes I guess, one moment they are the most powerful weapons afloat, next minute they are obsolete targets for aeroplanes.

Not that much rubbish, actually... The jobs of Yamato and Musashi could easily have been fulfilled by 16-incher ships. Those two were white elephants.

Miss Portman[:'(], I beg to differ. Just as HMS Dreadnought made all pre-dreadnought battleships obsolete, the fast aircraft carrier made the battleship obsolete.
