Utility: PS_CONFIG

The PS_CONFIG utility is available for download from the website listed at the end of this message.

Here is the contents of the .txt file the accompanies the zip:

PS_CONFIG v1.0.1.1
for PureSim Baseball 2007 CE 2-5 or v1.6+

IMPORTANT: Please make a backup of your associations .psa/.psx files before you work on them with the utility.

PS_Config is a utility that allows access to options/settings that you set at the time you created your association.

Some of these options/settings cannot be changed and are "grayed" out in the utility. Those grayed out are still being
tested/developed right now. Any option/setting not grayed out can be changed.

Example of how to make a change in PS_CONFIG:

Note: the same principle applies to any other field you want to change. Some fields require a TRUE/FALSE setting, others require
a value be specified. Pay close attention to step #8 in the example below.

The PS_Config utility and changing the ModernCloser setting:

1) Unzip the utility to any directory you like. You can create a shortcut desktop icon if you like.
2) Start the program by double-clicking.
3) Choose the association database (*.psa) you want to work with and click Open.
4) All 3 grids below the heading Association Global Settings are pulled from the WORLD table in your .psa file.
Actually, this is just a small part of what really exists in the WORLD table, but it does represent all the
options you set at the time you created your association.
5) First look at the bottom grid and find the field titled "Closer". This is the ModernCloser setting. It should be set to TRUE now.
6) Using your mouse, click once to highlight the word TRUE under CLOSER field.
7) Replace the word TRUE by Typing the word FALSE in its place.
8) IMPORTANT: after typing in FALSE, move the cursor out of the cell you just edited by using your DOWN-ARROW key once.
Once you move the cursor to the second row your changes will be automatically saved to your association database.
If you do not move the cursor to the second row, any changes you make will not be saved.
9) With the cursor still in the second row, you can click the Close button at the bottom right and exit the program.
10) Start PureSim
11) Go to each teams Modify Roster screen and move the Closer to the last relief slot.

A couple of side notes about other changes:
1) As you can see from the 2nd grid, you can change the roster size under the RosterSize field; however, there are important
considerations before changing this value:
a) You can ONLY increase the roster size. Decreasing this value will have no effect whatsoever in PureSim. So plan ahead and backup
your files before making changes to this field.
b) I strongly suggest you ONLY change this field during the off season - just before the draft starts. That way teams will follow
some sort of order when expanding their rosters during the draft and FA signing period. Making changes to this field during the
season will cause ONE team to sign all the best available talent to fill its roster before moving on to another team.
c) Preliminary tests indicated to me that setting a roster size to 50 or higher caused PureSim to import Real Players prior to
their actual debut year (3 to 4 years earlier). This would happen even with the PLAYERPREDEBUT field set to false. So beware.
This means you will likely run out of real players to draft before 2006 - especially if your association was started pre-1970's.
2) Its been my experience that the PLAYERAFFINITY AND PLAYERPREDEBUT fields are geared for the 35 man roster. That is just my opinion based on my own experiences.
3) The FINANCIAL, FINANCES, AND INFLATION fields deal with turning on/off the FINANCIAL model that PureSim uses. I have not yet found
an acceptable way to turn on this option without having every team dump all players to FA list and start from scratch. Even then
some players would sign a contract for 4 years worth $0.00 money. It would take a full season before the finances would kick in -
but you'd still have players under contract for $0.00 money. Once that contract was up, then they would sign for real money. So
until I have found a solution to turn this on without creating havoc, I am not allowing any of these options to be changed at this time.

Crash,

I have the utility and was going to use it on my small-roster association, but you suggested that I do it in the offseason (for which you cited VERY good reasons). Right now, we're a little under 40 games into our 4th season, 2009. I'll wait until I wrap it up to give it a try.

Granted, that would defeat the testing purpose, but... just thoguht I'd share.

I was wondering however, do you think that in the future you may be able to tweak your utility to rename associations? This would be great for people who don't have (or don't want) MS Access. Just a thought.

The reason I didn't do so in this version, is I have not tested that yet. It would require having the user change their association Almanac directory to match whatever they change their association name too. That would be at a minimum.
I'll need to test further too see if any other changes would be required before opening up the association name setting.
I'll keep ya posted.
