PBEM with Yava, when processing the first turn, the preferences change; in particular reports and animations change from ON to OFF.
Although this is a CHS game, I ran a number of trials in stock and got the following results:
CONDITIONS Five trials: PBEM, stock, Scen 15 Historical First Turn; animations, reports and summaries all on
RESULTS:Dec 7 Combat: animations did not run, reports not generated, on next orders phase preferences tab (P hotkey) showed both OFF. Set both back ON and ran next turn (5 of 5 trials)
Dec 8 Combat: 4/5 trials ran properly, one had reports and animations OFF
Can anyone else reproduce this or is it an artifact of my machine configuration?
(and the results for the real game, the second turn with Yava also failed to have animations or reports)

Who is the Japanese?
In the real PBEM game I am. In the trials I played both sides to speed up the process

Just ran two additional trials
Same conditions as before except set Historical First Turn OFF. It worked perfectly both times

There are problems with running a historical first turn... you generally won't get combat reports, etc. until after the first turn.
USUALLY (but not always) things will reset after a turn or two, but some people are stuck without them.
Don't know why this is happening (yet) - i think it showed up around 1.8 ...

I have had problems with preferences for animations and reports changing. When I used the same Witp install for two games (both as Japan) where one of my opponents wanted reports/animations and the other didn't, the preferences sometimes switched to "off" for the game that had them (and maybe vice versa, don't recall for sure). I'm quite certain I didn't reset them because it happened a number of times and each time I had to explain to Feinder "umm, I forgot to check the preferences"
I never spent a ton of time trying to figure out the dependencies, because I looked at this as "an annoyance to work around rather than a bug I want the devs to spend time on", but I'm reporting this just so you know "it's not just you" (Assuming it's the same)

Many people use separate folders for their WITP games to prevent this and other problems. You might consider it.

PBEM with Yava, when processing the first turn, the preferences change; in particular reports and animations change from ON to OFF.
The Japanese player controls the preferences settings for the game.
Try this. Make sure that the main screen preferences are set the way you want them then load your game. Go to the Preferences menu (2nd icon from left on taskbar IIRC) and make sure they match the main preferences menu.
Make sure that your opponent knows the settings and has them set the same way. End the turn and send it to your opponent. Have him check the in-game preferences menu to make sure they are the same. He then runs his turn and sends it back.
When you load your turn, make sure that the main preferences menu is the same and that the in-game preferences menu hasn't changed. That should take care of it. If it doesn't, you may want to consider a re-install.
Oh, and make sure you both are running the same game version.

It finally worked: the 11 Dec combat had animations and generated reports.

That's what I have now (mostly). I was mainly letting Pompack know he's not alone. Whenever I think I've got a "bug", I always like to know if it's just me being an idiot, or if it's really a problem others have seen. (Or at least that I'm merely one of a larger pack of idiots!)
