Los Angeles Subs not firing tomahawks

Dear All,
I have recently upgraded to V 3.8.0.0 and since this upgrade Los Angeles subs will not fire either VLS or through the tube tomahawks at either land or sea targets. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Hugh

Need some more details.

Which DB? Which scenario? Which version of the Tomahawk are you trying to use? Against which target?

Hate to sound like a trivia Nazi but in a complex simulator the devil lies in the details.

I too am having the same problem. Cannot launch Tomahawks at land targets from subs or ships. I'm using the Harpoon 3 standard DB(according to the config launcher) in the Pretorian scenario. Whatever Tomahawks that are in the sub or ship won't work. I've think I've figured out how to load them in the logistics screen and I know I'm in range (keep getting the "not in range....." message). The verticle launch tubes are preloaded and I even loaded the Mk tubes with Tomahawks to no avail. Hope there is an answer for this and it's not some kind of bug, or me just being dense.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks FreekS. I was affraid of it being a bug. Can't hardly keep up with all the bugs in this game. Should have checked it out more before buying. Oh well. Guess I'll put it on the shelf beside my copy of Silent Hunter 4. Thanks again FreekS

This is a DB problem then....simply use another DB and its related scenarios.

There's your problem right there. Original/Standard DB is riddled with such problems.

Stick with ANW database to begin with and try others.

It's not the game, it's the fact the game has changed and needs DBs brought into line with it.

As a new user I'm not exactly happy about the situation either BUT there are ways around it.

Ok. Thanks for the tip Burnt. With the ANW DB(2) I get the harpoon4 battleset, and a tutorial. But when trying to open scenarios for the Battleset, it says the scenario can't be found. Do the scenarios all have to be downloaded first? The tutorials do work though. I'll try the other ANW DB(1.4) and see how that works.

Do that - try the PlayersDB and DB2000 as well.

DB2000 scenarios are listed as "untested" with ANW, although if you try them, a lot of them work.

It's a very sore point because DB2000 folk (HarpoonHQ) condemn the PlayersDB, saying it's largely a ripoff of DB2000.

My advice - try 'em.

If you're feeling VERY brave, you might even get the DB editor. That lets you look into existing DBs and appreciate that they are extemely complex. It's a very handy tool - sort of like the Scenario Editor but with extra tools for viewing and editing individual entries.

Oh, and the reason for DBs not being compatible with ANW is that ANW patches including fixes to bugs that come from Professional. That breaks the old DBs (in some cases).

ANW has issues with sensor status not being displayed properly. That's a genuine bug.

Most of the rest of the issues (ESM sub ability, weapons not firing etc) seem to be DB "errors".

It took me many months to get what the current status is.

Oh yeah, next patch 3.8.1 sets to fix the sensor display issue and let you change the text and picture entries of Databases.

So don't give up - just take it easy, experiment with some of the smaller scenarios, and feedback (to the relevant DB people) issues you have.

Final bit of advice - don't get too many scenarios at once per DB. You'll only confuse yourself otherwise.

Thanks again for your help Burnt.
I got DB 1.4 to work, but 2.0 still won't load existing scenarios from the HP4 DB. So I guess I'll take your suggestion and start trying to make things work myself by using a DB editor.
I'd like to know what DB editor you suggest using, and where can I get it. Is it possible to fix some of the problems I mentioned earlier? Mainly, getting tomahawks to work from different DB's?
I had a Harpoon game with an editor back in the 90's that let me edit pretty much any unit in the game with the existing DB of the time. It was easy to use and I remember making great scenarios with it.

You can get the standard DB editor (at least, put in a request for one) on this very site;-

My advice would be to stick with databases that are original works [8D]. There are plenty to choose from.
The principal problem you get is that when a database copies large sections from many others, the result isn't entirely compatible with itself.

For instance different databases will use differing calculations for radar cross sections. A missile with a seeker set to a certain value will then detect some ships better than others, simply because the RCS calculations are messed up.
The net result is missiles wandering all over the place, and hitting targets the player did not aim at.
