questions

I have been following this game for a while. WWI has always intriqued me. Bought the game yesterday and trying to figure it out. I must first say that I was concerned about the resolution issue and interface issue that was brought up in earlier posts. I have found the interface to be different but simple once you get used to it. As for the resolution issue, I have found it not to be a big deal.
I do have some questions:
1. What are the little 1’s and 2’s on some of the French units when I am playing the Central Powers?
2. Is there music throughout the game? My game plays one song and then that is it.
3. There were times when I tried to activate a headquarters that had activation points left but could not. Any thing that prevents activation?
4. I am confused by some of the symbols on artillery units. Most have a 3 in the upper right hand corner which I am assuming is the strength. Most have a number in the lower left hand corner which I am assuming is the number of barrages left. Some have the letters S or L which I don’t know what they mean.
5. What is the purpose of the grayish wooden framed screen in the lower left part of the strategic map?
6. Some of my German units have a quality of A, some B etc. I understand this. But some have a quality of 1A and others 2A. What does this mean?
7. I have two computers. One is fairly new with a 20 inch wide screen monitor with a native resolution of 1680 by 1050. By running at 1152 by 864 and changing the way my monitor scales I can get a good a very crisp screen which fills up a good bit of the available space of my monitor. My problem is with the older computer – 17 inch LCD monitor running at 1024 by 768. On this machine, I cannot fit the game to the monitor. The bottom of the screen gets cut off even thought the game and my monitor are both using the same resolution. Any ideas?
8. On the National Status Screen – where do Pre-Prod RMs come from? For that matter where does Production come from? Germany has 4 of the little oils wells but gets 8 production points. Austria also has four but only gets six production points. Turkey has 5 and gets 5 production points. Is there some kind of modifier at work here that I am not seeing?
9. Also on the National Status Screen – where do the industry number comes come from. Again in my game as the CP, Germany has fourteen industries but the numbers read 25/17. Now I understand the industries are gearing up for war and may eventually produce 50 points for those 25 industrial points (25/50 as per the manual), but where does the 25 come from.
10. How does a gas attack work? As the Germans I had 4 of them, launched them all and never saw any results.
Thanks for any help.
