im playing campaighn in africa 40d to 42....... every div has a HQ unit that says its a HQ unit when you look at its internal display.........then theres the other HQ units that are also attached to the div but dont seem to have the qualitys that the main HQ units have.
sometimes theres 2 or 3 of them in the div......the italian Ariete tank div has 2 i believe....
what are there function? and do they help resupply of the units in the div?
thanks

HQ units offer a supply bonus to adjacent, co-operative units. Units of the same formation will always be co-operative, as may others of similar colour scheme.
There are some other special functions of HQ units which come into play if they have support squads and command groups assigned. Losing the support groups will reduce the amount of supply received by the formation, whilst losing command groups may lead the formation to go into reorganisation.

..damn, i was hoping for an answer too..
..yeah but they're not actual HQ units, they're just combat units labelled HQ, me i'd call them ants but what do i know...
..so STEINER, use them as formation recon elements, divide and go see..

You can't divide HQ units.
Anyway, you can indeed use HQ units in this way. In scenarios where there is a surplus of such units, this may be the best use for them.

GD,
What they are talking about are not HQ units. They are infantry units named XX HQ.
Bob Cross, the designer of the scenario series, would probably be the best person to ask.

Just treat them as combat units.

I'd ditto this and go there. I'd like to know too, but I'd guess what GD has said already.

Curtis Lemay=Bob Cross, though his answer wasn't as revealing as I was expecting.

I'll try again. Historically, they were brigade/regimental HQs. I didn't feel they warranted that level of supply benefit in the game, so I didn't give them the HQ icons. But whatever combat abilities they had they have retained.

Right'o. I was just wondering if you had had some other use in mind than straight combat units. Apparently not, and your first answer was enough.
