Shorter game Vs the computer?

I have read various posts from gamers who state that the games they play against the computer do not last anywhere near the historical length (i.e. the war is over in less that 2 years). Is this true for most of you playing solo games? I play a lot of solo games and I would like the computer to be able to play this game a little longer than 2 years. So what about the rest of you out there? What has been your experience.

I'm in a game as the rebs, vs. the Union AI, that will almost certainly go to the 1864 election.  I've taken Washington, and am holding my own in the West, but the growing Federal Hordes will make life hard for me shortly.  I'm at the tail end of 1863.

I think that players that are seeing short games are taking advantage of the ability a human player has to lure the AI's armies in to situations where you can completely surround and destroy them.

Until Pocus gets the AI to the point where it is less likely to let major formations get cut off, a house rule allowing the AI an avenue of retreat will even thing up a lot.

Also, I think having the Confederate AI set to "Cautious" while giving it now FOW advantage makes it play a less risky game.  The Union AI I'm playing against is set to "Normal" with no FOW advantage.

thanks for the post and the tip on the reb setup. I just downloaded the game and will set the Rebs to the setting you mentioned. I was wondering if there is any advantage to using random stats. I am not sure how to set that in the option menu. Is the first box no ramdom stats and the other 3 a greater amount of random stats? Sometime being old means you just don't get some things even though the answer is right there in front of you :-)

You also have to understand that the game will be easier if you play the Union. We have not made thing ahistorically even. Also, random leaders will favor the Union side more than the CSA one.
