1. No. CHS only runs on AB map.
2. Not Applicable.

NikMod also exists for stock map.

The old Andrew Brown Map should/would work with stock. Only Andrew Brown's Extended map would not.
This used to be widely posted - and many of us still have it - although it is no longer updated by Andrew.
The stock map is amazingly awful - not quite a different planet - just a different economic world where few of the
roads and rail lines are like on our planet. I myself refused to consider playing WITP until I saw Andrew's map.
I am too familiar with geography, and it hurt my eyes!
You can add a location to the stock map by using the editor (in the location file, low slots - where you see other
places defined). You can change a hex side by using the WITPExcel or WITP Editor X (in the pwhex file). You can change these things WITHOUT changing any map art.

Are you sure ???
AKAIK CHS only runs on AB map (either variety). There are/were versions of several stock scenarios that run on AB map. Andrew converted them by changing all the locations (i.e. the hex values) in the editor/scenario files. But the reverse is not true, that CHS has been converted to run on stock, at least not that I've ever heard of. I suppose Andrew could confirm, unless it was someone else that did it.

Yeah. Cobra put me on to it. I actually do stuff like that all the time. Turns out WITP engine is robust - and pretty much independent of the map. You can actually run ANY form of pwhex with ANY mod (for the same size map anyway).
The pwhex is the thing that matters - it is the "map" in the mind of code as it were. The art map is for players - and the reason it should be paired with the same pwhex is so the players can "see" what the code is "seeing" in pwhex. But you can even mix them - and RHS Level 5 maps are essentially compatable with any CHS Andrew Brown Extended map version - so you can mix pwhex and map art to get the features you like - and it works quite well. There are Cobra versions of both CHS and RHS maps - and of course several Andrew Brown versions - so you can get the art you like.
You can then mate them with the pwhex to give you (or not give you) various things like ferries, rivers, etc. [Both exist - but in very different degrees - in CHS and RHS pwhex files] Or you may like things like where blocked hex sides are (or are not) in one file (or another). Which you can "see" by the color of the hex side.
But I was surprised when Cobra told me - and until I spent half my life doing pwhex (and talking to Cobra and sometimes Andrew about art that is visible) I didn't understand it. I think the above is a pretty good summary explanation.

Yeah,, yeah, yeah ... I don't bother to swap maps or pwhex files when debugging ... but I don't think that means like RHS runs on stock or CHS runs on stock ... technically you can say that it does .. but the person asking was thinking of playing a game .. and I would not suggest to play RHS on stock map with stock PWHEX nor would I CHS. So I guess for the purpose of the question, I would stick to my answer that CHS does not run (as a playable game) on stock (nor does RHS to my knowledge).

RHS does not run on the stock map - because RHS was designed for Andrew Brown's Extended Map - and the standard map does not have things in the right places to make sense for a player. But CHS and RHS Level 5 can be played on the other's map (and/or pwhex - you can mix em too). I think the ORIGINAL Andrew Brown map system MIGHT work - but in that case you would need to use the pwhex file for whichever map you are using - since you would want land units always to seem to be on land. IF one wants to do a stock mini-scenario, but use a CHS map - I think this might even be a reasonable option. Which is why I said so. I have not tried that particular combination - but I see no technical reason it will not work - and seem to be "right" to a player.
Like you, I often do not swap map art or pwhex files when investigating something. And often that is in a situation that would not work for a game. But if you choose wisely the components it should work fine. You cannot play an Extended map scenario on a stock map - surely. You cannot play a RHS Level 7 scenario on Andrews Extended map either (no Madagascar for example). But as long as the scenario does not expect things not on the map, it should be fine.
