Can't get Assault to work?

It must be me, I must not be reading something right, or I am just dense. I read in the manual on page 46 about Assault. I have tried and tried, but when I do it my selected troops try to walk over to the enemy instead of giving me an assault menu. Here is what I do:
1) Select my men that I want to do the assault by left-clicking them.
2) Right-click an adjacent square that holds the enemy I want to assault.
3) My men try to walk there and then automatic firing takes place and I never have any choices?!
What am I doing wrong or NOT doing?
Thanks.

To assault, the following is required.
Your forces are undisrupted.
Your forces have adequate action points.
Your forces are occupying the hex
adjacent to the hex you wish to assault.
If the above conditions are met, selecting your assaulting unit, then right click (
in move mode) on the hex to be assaulted.
A cluster of red arrows will appear.
Press the Resolve Assault button on the bottom button bar.
Attached is zip file containing a quick and dirty PDF on assaulting basics.

Are the enemy disrupted?
Are your troops disrupted (you cant assault with disrupted troops).
Are you attacking with sufficient odds?
Which type of terrain hex are you assaulting?
Which type of troops are you assaulting with?
An assault does not guarantee you take the hex.

Got it!!! Thanks you two (Jason and MartNick)! What I was doing wrong was not paying enough attention to the "D" in the Unit rosette. I kept trying and at least one had been disrupted.
Also the word Adjacent means Adjoining! Like no space between the hexes... geeesshhh! [&:]
Thanks! Works great now. [&o]
Jason, keep the cracking, it works for you. [;)][;)]

It's not crack. If it were crack, you'd quickly lose interest in the game, along with everything else.
All that leaves is a passion for the game. I'll buy that. That and dedication comes through loud and clear.
LarryP, regarding the assault, did you turn off the Combat Results Detail Box? You had an issue with that in another thread. If it were on, the process may make more sense. If it weren't on, I guess you would hear some gunshots and then nothing, which is what you described. If the assault fails, nobody moves. It sounds like you were in the adjacent hex. But when you didn't mention the red arrows, that suggests you weren't in the adjacent hex and walked into opportunity fire.
