Hi,
Now that BFC have done contemporary warfare I think there is a growing appetite for a NATO Central Front game at the lower tactical level…. individual AFVs… any chance?
Will there be a map editor in Kharkov?
Will map sizes be increased ?
Great series of games…
Good luck with tings,
All the best,
Kip.

There are no ATGMs so Fulga gap would be tank to tank.
You can edit the html data and make tables for T62 and M60s. Along with their weapons. I did this as a test. Though I didn't make the 3D models for them. That is beyond my pay grade.

The map size is 1000 x 1000 cells. Everything is scaled to the models which makes it 1000m x 1000m.
I was thinking about this today. The game is so highly modable that you can change the scale by modifying the data tables with a text editor. If you halved the spotting range table and weapons table ranges and halved the speed of all the units your map becomes equal to 2000m x 2000m. If you half the data again it becomes equivalent to a 4km x 4km area.
Of course your troops, vehicles, trees and houses then would be much too large compared to the ground/distance scale. Tanks would be seem to be 20 meters long. But the weapons, movement and sighting distances would all work at the new scale. If you have played miniature tabletop games you probably are comfortable with the models being out of scale with the ground scale.
So if you really want to go all out with modern you can make your own really really tiny 3D models and mod yourself some really big battles.

I would think that air to ground battles would be more common in open terrain than tank vs tank in a Cold War scenario.
PC could model city battles faily well. Tanks as support rather than the star of the show.
Close assault on AFVs is abstracted in PC so not very visually stimulating but my experience has been edge of the chair when your tank moves up a street and stumbles upon an enemy squad in a building or an ATG in a well placed position.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies…

I do think the maps are too small for a serious tactical game. I have Winter Storm and will no doubt buy this version…which is what matters most
, but map size needs to go up to 2000m x 2000m.

The other concern I had with Winter Storm was fortifications and concealment. It is important that foxholes/trenches are concealed until the enemy unit is spotted. They are assumed to be reasonable/somewhat camouflaged.

When it comes to Fulda Gap I was no thinking of a mod. It was a question for the developers. Have they thought of a NATO central front game?

Nobody reponded to your post about T90s for the other game.
Maybe the void will be filled in the next version of PC. With all of the titles Matrix has they should know how well or not modern warfare sells.

If you all want a modern game, you should also take a look at Flashpoint: Germany and the upcoming and much improved Flashpoint: Middle East. You can see a preview of that here:
