Is Euro Wifcon still a going concern?

There was a very fascinating game played on the wall with new hi-tech magnets and an enlarged map that comfortably held six counters per hex without stacking. Japan DOW'd the CW in Nov/Dec 1939 and the UK surrendered to the Axis in late 1940. But the Allies came back and achieved an automatic victory, taking Berlin (with the Liberated 10-6 British ARM of course) in mid 1944 if I recall correctly.

WiFCon is an excellent experience that I highly recommend to everyone who loves World in Flames. You do nothing but play World in Flames for eight and a half straight days, it's like 8 straight Christmas mornings if you are into WiF. (Well, maybe only if you are winning I guess). The conversation is sparkling and even the most experienced players learn something every year.

There are two solidly established WiFCons; the USA one ended last night in Lansing, MI (www.wifcon.org); EuroWiFCon is coming up in western Germany in early October. A WestCoastWiFCon has been held once and could be occuring again next year in California in late May.

Ohhh I got all excited about the prospect of playing WIF for 8 full days so I am going to see if i can get that week off work. 3 friends of mine are checking as well! It is a mere 10 hour drive from our place [:D]

Irish will be there next year in USA ... Nay matter where or when .. [:)]

Just got back yesterday myself. My game had a Axis advance through Spain and into Gibraltar. This was followed by a weal 1942 Barb which petered out in mid 42. Following that the Allies chased Germany and achieved total conquest in July/Aug 1945. Japan built up in the face of a rearward Chinese deployment. China was never able to break through. Japan took Pearl Harbor on the surprise impulse. The US came back using Auckland NZ as the forward base. Japan ended with 8 objective hexes.

Other games featured a through Spain gambit that failed and would have killed the Axis (but game only got into mid 44), a though Spain gambit that succeeded and led to a stupendously successful Barb with Russia on the verge of surrender had the game finished, and the Sea Lion game described above.

In addition there were discussions of MWiF, the LOC program, the next annual, and next year's convention.

Lots of fun and a whole week of WiF.

What are the hard-core WIF players saying about MWIF? Do you know what the attendence #s were?

I went a couple of years ago, and might have gone this year if I hadn't used up lots of money and vacation time on going to Germany.
 
I certainly hope to go next year.

Matrix WiF was briefly discussed in hopes that it hits the Origins 2008 target date which will hopefully help encourage Harry to come to next year's USA WiFCon.
