Have not played with house rules but ifn I did.
I would stop those Godlike Carriers from attacking inland targets. This would be to simulate some common sense and facts of there use.
I would prohibit attacks from Nov 39 thru Mar 40 against Holland or Belgium. This would be to simulate winter.
I would allow only one Italian on the Eastern Front as long as Yugoslavia, Greece and Africa are dominated by Neutral or Allies. Two, Three, Four units as each of these areas are conquered. If Port Said fell regardless of the situation in the Balkans that would release the Italians to send forces in any quantity. This will take into account what I consider more likely actions by an indepentent ally.
Only destroyers and CV's would be allowed to attack subs.
I would prohibit amph/trans landings in France/Belgium or Netherlands during winter months.
I could probably come up with more but I really dont waste that much time on this game in this format. Game has no historical basis it is just a game not a simulation. So I have not asked for houserules because game is overwhelming game with war basis. This is not a WWII game.

When you say overwhelming do you mean the game overwhelms you or it is a game where to win you overwhelm the enemy quickly. I must say I am not happy with the way the axis does everything so much faster than one would expect.
I am patiently waiting for the new CWIE as i had so much fun with the original board game. Perhaps this will give a more historical feel and tempo to operations. On the other hand IIRC it was not exactly a correct operational simulation of the Barbarossa offensive, probably due to the restricted russian counter mix.

have no idea how balanced it is, but its intended to be more historic. A few notes of great importance:
NAVAL TRANSPORTS COST 10
intended Optional
Rules:
1) Anglo-French cooperation - UK limited to 2 Units in France until Italy is at War
2) UK & France cannot move forces in Med until Italy as at war - includes French unit in Marseilles and garrison in morocco
3) UK cannot move DD from Quebec until Italy is at war (this is the 50 DDs from USA)
4) I would also suggest my garrison
rules and east front garrisons - 1 unit required in each Polish City + Konigsburg until at war with Russia, (not until the turn after poland falls) and 1 unit in each capital city (only) for all occupied nations.
5) Also minors have limits:
Rumania - 1 corps must remain in Rumania - only operate in Yugoslavia and Russia
Hungary - 1 corps in hungary - only operate in Poland, Yugoslavia, and Russia
Bulgaria - 1 corps in bulgaria, only operate in Yugoslavia, Greece, or Turkey
Finland - 1 corps in finland, only operate w/in 6 hexes of their border
I'd add to this that as long as the UK isn't allowed to move its destroyer the Axis is only allowed 1 sub "at large" in the Atlantic as a balance, since they didnt' have many at this stage and 2 sub units will create way too much havoc - the major problems didn't start until later.

1), 2) and 3) would just make it easier for germany to win as the idea is to defeat France BEFORE Italy enters the war. historically the French fleet was in action and units from Africa were shipped to France before Italy entered.
The east front garrisons etc are reasonable but no axis player is going to agree?

Yes units were shipped, but they are not represented in this game - ther is only a garrison or 2 there, and the units shipped are better represented as reinforcements - buying new units in France. the French fleet was in action....but not hte battlefleet or subs - which is what is represented - French naval actions prior to surrender were very limited - patroling the Atlantic and apparently bombarding the port at Genoa....which by definition means adfter Italy has declared war!!

the point of house rules is precisely that both players do agree....if the German doesn't want to play by 4 & 5then the ally can feel free not to bother with the others.....Vypuero tried to give a more "historical" feel by simulating areality a bit more closely.

When I said overwhelming I meant the game is only a game and has no basis of history of WWII. I personnally find this very disappointing. What I find worse is the producer feel balance is more important then accuracy. They seem to feel you can not make both an accurate and balanced game.
Personnally I completely disagree with that opinion. It is no more difficult to make the game accurate as you can while making it correctly balanced. The Axis should kick butt until 42 plain and simple. After that the worm turns. Regretfully I feel the attitude makes the game long run one that has no legs.
As to CWIE I play the game daily as I think you know. CWIE2 has been in production for years. Advancement is still almost at a stand still. Steve had a stroke same day as my son and he is still having trouble. Jerry is trying to help but he is not a computer person. So I am doubtful. The programmer is in Australia and is trying but Doc has tied his hands in many respects. I would like to see that product also but I am not anticipating it any longer.

targul want to thank you for the info about cwie. Hadn't known it was around. Too bad about the programmer, ver 2 looks real interesting. Did not know DG had all the SPI stuff, shows how out of touch I've gotten since the almighty computer (and work and life and...)Going down the games list took me back to my SPI intro, which was Strategy 1. 7 of us played it by the day at one of the reserve armories. Quite an eye opener after the AH stuff of the day. Wonder what it would be like on a computer...

Someone ported Advanced Third Reich to the SC2 engine and it plays very similiar. I really enjoy it and find it very close to the real thing. Good AI and fun play. Even a little history involved to make it have that WWII appeal for me.

Agree Dave if only SC2 had hexes. Also I like much of the things in the expansion for SC2 but I am worried they may have added too much. Wont know until it is released.
Nothing out there at the moment nor in the pipeline that I am aware of. Doubt this game will "fixed" so we will need something else to try.
