After several attempts at giving the AI a fighting chance I finally have a game that has gone into May 43 (the others made it to about August 42).

The AI got pissed that I re-captured Ragoon. It sent several CVs to the Indian Ocean (I've never seen the AI operate CVs in the Indian Ocean).

I don't know what it is about Tavoy...sort of like a bug zapper.

Something I made up to fill the time while waiting on pbem turns.

Its been a while since I played against AI but I don't recall it sending so may single CV TFs into a base hex.

What carriers are the Muteki, Shoyu, Taikaku, and Aki?

I have seen the AI send carriers to the Indian Ocean, at least to the extent of circum-navigating Java & Sumatra, but I've never seen them so determined to clear minefields the hard way.

Muteki is one of Akagi's sisters (the original sister name was used).
Shoyo is a sister of Soryu (there are four in this class).
Taikaku is sister of Shokaku (four in this class).
Aki is another sister of Akagi.

The version is 1.8, using Andrew’s map. I used every ship slot. By the end of the war the Japs will have built 51 CVs, plus about ten cruise ships that will convert to Hiyo/Junyo type CVs in 44. 23 BBs will be built, 30 CAs, 56 CLs and 523 DDs.

Hopefully there will be some good carrier action in 44, 45, 46 and 47 (if I am still alive).

I filled out every air slot and every ground slot.

I advanced every Jap aircraft by six months. All army air units have moral and experience of at least 77, some are 88. The IJN air units are 88 or 99.

So far this has been a good entertaining game against the AI.

In the Pacific all French territory was handed over to the Japs. So the supply line to Australia is longer. Convoys have to steam south of Bora Bora to avoid torpedo bombers. I forgot how strong I made some base forces. I lost the 1st Marine Division the day after they invaded Bora Bora. I was playing during a storm and the power went out so I had to restart the day before the invasion. The second invasion went a little better. The Marines survived, barely. The battle raged for 24 days.

They were not single CV TFs. Each had at least 4 CVs. But for some reason only one CV out of each TF strayed into the mine field. Maybe it's the software's way of getting rid of non stock ships?

I seem to remember that there is some odd 'routine' that makes the Flagship of a TF more suceptible to minefields. That's why you get occasionally reports of 50+ mine hits on a single ship. In CV-TFs a CV will be the Flagship, so no wonder the CVs struck the mines.

But somebody else might correct me (or elaborate more on it...)
