Technical problem: upgrading air units

Working on the battle of Oahu - but this applies to lots of other places - I note that Allied players (or in the reverse Japanese players) - can upgrade an air unit if there is sufficient supply - EVEN IF THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE PLANES to the unit! I hate house rules - but is this OK? I ran a P-40 unit down to 0 planes - but it instantly upgraded to something like 24 P-43s. In effect the Japanese must destroy ALL the planes in ALL the pools (if the Allied player commits them) - even if the short range ones could not reach the battle area. The charge the game makes invasion "too easy" is the opposite of the truth - code that does not think makes it "too hard." I noted before that PT boats didn't work in the swells of Hawaii - yet they work in the game. But this is more serious - and if we increase Allied aircraft production/replacement rates - it only gets worse. UNTIL you run the ENTIRE US out of fighters, you cannot begin to reduce the land units. Running them entirely out is taking me about 5 or 6 weeks.

re PT boats;

The US can just keep building PT's and set them to defend PH, cheap & nasty.

Sid, keep smashing the airfield, soon they wont be able to take off, plus if you keep at it they'll upgrade to P-26's.

OT. Would they upgrade to Hurricanes etc, I often have my VP Sqns fitting out with Dorniers? (CHS 154)
