You guys were right!

I just want to say that I agreed to add the suspense option in air/naval combat because a number of users wanted it and it wasn't too hard to implement (especially given that Alex had to do the actual work). However I figured that I wouldn't use it myself, since I quite liked how the combats ran.

I have to say that I was wrong about that - I now use the suspense option all the time, it adds even more tension to the game, and I'll never turn it off. If you're not using it, give it a go and see what you think.

So thanks to those people who contributed this change to the wish list thread, you were right about this and I was wrong. I know I'm going to get questions about why it wasn't included from the start, and all I can say is that I honestly can't remember the question ever arising. It's just impossible to get everything 100% right the first time, unless you employ the wonderful hindsight machine (we've got one on order but are yet to get a firm delivery date).

I put the game on the shelf in the hope this change would appear in an early patch - very glad to see it has and I will give the game a go when I can find the time!

I just fired up CAW again after the patch & played in the Coral Sea with mystery variant number 1. My Yorktown TG was savaged by Japanese carrier airstrikes. The Yorktown went down & a surface engagement ensued with great loss. It was a mistake to be as aggressive as I was.

It seems as though the search & sighting routine has been re-worked to make the sightings less helpful, reliable & predictable?

Yes, The suspense option is really neat & makes the airstrike animations carry their weight. Nice touch!!! The option is turned on after installing the patch & I had commented before editing about the delay in showing the combat results & how it added to the suspense. I am slow off the blocks[:D]. No reason to turn it off, ever.

I also really appreciate the pop-up display tags that detail the status of aircraft arming & fueling.

Thanks for all the effort in getting a patch to improve the game.

What does the suspense option do? Mine has been turned on but I installed the latest patch (v1.01?) right after I brought the game home saturday.

Previously, the plane reports (bottom right during a strike) were all shown as soon as the combat started. Several people suggested that it would be much more suspenseful to have the plane reports pop-up as the plane animation showed a hit / miss.
