I have started to mess around with this scenario (daylight bgd tactics) and have been having a little bit of difficulty. I guess the biggest observation I have is that I have the wrong units for the job. In particular, It appears like everything I have is motorized in one form or another. Although they will dimount to defnd them selves they seem to return to their vehicles to press the assualt. This is fine except they can not go up the hill any appreciable distance.

Is this by design?

Am I suposed to adopt tactics of surrounding the hill and then use ranged fire to fire on the embedded defenders until they route?

I haven't tried the second approach yet but it is detailed well on another post. I just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Use the pathing tools to help find the quickest route up the hill to the objective. I remember being able to get some motorized units within the objective radius by coming up from behind the hill. You have to move fast though.

A combination of both stratagies should do the trick. Time is of the essence.

This scenario was intended very much as a tactical exercise, of the sort you encounter during officer training - hence the name! It might be a short and relatively simple scenario but it is not easy at all.

Some of the key things to learn from it are:
* dealing with time pressure when attacking objectives; sometimes there isn't enough time for a recce and prepared attack and you just have to assault off the line of march or find a way to bypass
* manoeuvering AFVs and motorised units in difficult terrain; you gets lots of this challenge as the Axis player in the historical scenarios but very little as the Allied player who tends to have an infantry-heavy force
* how tough terrain can be for motorised forces; so you have this experience in mind when, as Division or Corps commander, you order an AI motorised Brigade to carry out an operation like this
* how time of day affects your operations; play it and then try the Night Attack scenario and see how differently they pan out
