Ah, I wish. I also make large maps and am frequently frustrated by the 500 hex horizontal limitation.
One day.

I made myself infamous in Steel Panthers with my huge scenarios but a 500 hex map makes me cringe [X(].
How long do people play such a big scenario? Or is that made for online game with several people playing it?
Artur.

Depends on the fluidity of the battle, the purpose of the battle, what the scenario is trying to represent, etc. There are a few out there, few indeed, that enjoy the commitment that comes with playing the larger battles. One could play hundreds of smaller battles/engagements within that big battle, giving different types of experiences all within one scenario and prevents the "final turn suicidal charge" syndrome I have noted.
Alternatively, as you noted, they can be used for Team Games online or PBEM where each player is controlling a large force.

A very large 'mastermap' can also be very handy. Nothing more frustrating if you want to make a scenario and it turns out you had everything mapped... but on two different maps. Happens to me frequently as I never made a 'master map' of the southern part of Holland.

What scenario covering a day of an operation needs a map bigger than 125 square kilometers.
I think the master map could be done but in sections. Shifting the first map over to the next section over or down and make the next one.

Thinking outside the box, I would like to combine my Orsha and Smolensk maps into one master base map, and generate a long, large scenario based on the battles that encompass from the crossing of the Dnepr up to and including the battle for Yelnia and Roslavl.
Obviously, this would require day and night turns, and even then time would have to be abstracted. But with the 500 hex horizontal limitation, I am 450 hexes horizontal short of the area that is required to portray the battles above in
one scenario.

Is is technically possible to paste several maps together. I always thought it wasn't?

Not that I am aware of, but since I have the two maps are already nearly complete, it wouldn't take much effort to reconstruct one element into the other as the grunt work has already been done.

Hallo Jason, Huib
It is technically possible. I use exel for combining the maps among themselves and next to each other (in the code). I need large maps for my Multiplayer scenarios (1Hex = 1km in CS meets PG3D!) It is to be played now already possible maps in the code more largely than 500, but the map editor does not store more largely than 500.

................................................Brest................................................................Minsk.......................................................................Smolensk

Jason,
Do I understad it correctly that within JTCS it is possible to create maps with 500 X500 hexes? So far, that is to say within 'the old' WestFront, 400 X 400 hexes was the maximum! With an extra 25 kilometers mapwidth, many of my 'problems' would be solved. Furthermore, I fully agree with Huib's idea in creating a possibility to cut and past certain (parts of) maps into others.
Regards,
Hajo

There is only a 500 horizontal limitation. I haven't found a vertical limitation yet. One of my master maps is 500 wide and 560 hexes high. Another master map is 500 wide by 640 hexes high.

Jason, is there a way to copy parts of a master map into a new map in CS?
Artur.

Not that I am aware of. I am still trying to figure that out, so hopefully it will be a feature in the future.

Please make that as a high priority wish of the scenario designers. WinSPMBT and WinSPWWII has that feature which is invaluable.
Artur.

Cool, I didn't know you could go over the 500 in either direction.[:D]

If you could make that happen that would be awesome.I'm considering future projects using the CS engine and this would make life so much easier.

In the meantime, you can create a large master map and then resize and move to the area you wish to use of the master map, saving it as a new map.
If you have a 200 x 200 map area, you can "chop" it up to a 10 x 20 area, for example.
