I almost never see anything get sunk at all :(. I think I've only once lost a capital ship and I keep my fleets at sea pretty much all game (this is against the AI mind you so maybe the experience vs a human might be different).

I think the lethality of naval combat needs to be cranked up a couple of notches. The fleet should be a volatile resource whose use entailed high risks and consequently great rewards if you won. As it stands right now, there's really no reason not to sail the high seas fleet into the Atlantic every turn and fight it out.

I've seen quite a bit of sinking in my games.  As for the historical Battle of Jutland, I think that in games terms you would probably have each side lose 1 destroyer, and MAYBE the Brits lose one battlecruiser, and then a lot of the other "units" that fought in Jutland would be damaged to varying degrees

Mind you that naval is actually consisting of squadrons that is a tactical grouping of capital ships.

So one DN is not simulating just that particular DN but 5 to 6 DN which is a lot to ask for being sunk in one naval engagement.

After all even the battle of Jutland would only have cost one cruiser squadron for each side.
