COTA + Mac + VMware works

I got an iMac for my office. I have Windows XP and VMWare fusion running as well for Quickbooks. I'm happy to say that COTA works perfectly even when running XP in a virtual machine. So far it's the only game I've discovered that will do so . . .

Eddy, one of the Beta Team, I believe, has used VMWare before for previous engine testing. I think he has used it not for hardware cross platform compatibility, but instead to see how COTA would do and install on older OS like Win98 SE.
I, myself, haven't used VMWare, but have tried some older DOS games with MS Virtual PC 2004/2007 (now a free download). However, I wasn't very impressed. The performance and ease of use did not come anywhere close to DOSBOX.

The latest in virtual machines, VMware and Parallels, are very fast. I actually cannot detect any loss of performance in the 2D world. The 3D support is pretty bad. Setup couldn't be much easier with vmware and (I hear) parallels.

don't know if you actually heard about "D3DWindower", but this little program let you play a game in a D3D window. I'm playing a COTA/HTTP 1024x768 window in a 1280x960 desktop.
Just google for D3DWindower and you still find a copy (freeware), better if you find a english-like compliant version.
Good result also with Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 that you can download from Microsoft for free..

Virtual PC is no longer a macintosh program.
