quick synopsis: I realize this should be a safe haven for revolution a place where grand thinkers can gather and share ideas...

what it is, is that everything in the news is effecting me too much. I lost my filtering ability. Maybe it some mid-life thing or what, but it is affecting my dreams...I got so upset when I heard about that star simpson thing: walking into the airport with a fake bomb strapped to her???, I had to stop using the table saw because it was running around in my head over and over again...then I had a nightmare that my neighbors daughter pulls this "prank?" but the out-come is security blows her head off and that in itself rightly so and yet tragic but things like that should not be tolerated its paradox...it seems surreal sometimes wondering how everything got so topsy-turvy so fast...I hate to lose it...

The simple solution is to stop watching the news. At least until you can regain some balance, and the ability to thicken your filter a bit...

Hi robpost3,

Just my observation. Caring people sometimes let their emotions rule them. I would put you in this category (a caring person.) Maybe, your caring is affecting you in a negative way.
In my vocational career before my present job. I was faced with many peoples pain and personal problems. A professional knows it is unhealthy for ones emotions to take hold when helping people. Becoming too emotionally moved by peoples problems could destroy ones effectivness in helping others.

It will take a little time to lessen the emotional hold things have on you. Make the choice then, to work on that part of you.
You will still be a caring person just a little more discerning. As, you balance your persective. You may have to deal with moments of feelings as though you've turned into (a cold -hearted person). That's not he case, just think about this as a healthier way.

Hope this helps. By the way, glad your on the forums with us.

Related to what JAMiAM said, the fact that we are now saturated with 24 news doesn't help. If you watch for any length of time your filling your head with tons of images and information which can't be too helpful either. It used to be just the 5 o'clock or 6 o'clock news.

That's why I don't watch the news. It shouldn't be called the news, it should be called the "Bad News" [:D]

Sadly, the news has gone from informational programming to networks competing to see who can blare out "63 NEW WAYS YOU WILL DIE!" the loudest.

Like others have said, robpost, just take a step back for a little while. If it's affecting you as deeply as it seems to be, it is not worth it. You have to look out for your own sanity and health, man.

...then I had a nightmare that my neighbors daughter pulls this "prank?"

Try to relax man. The world's a nasty place and always has been. Maybe your neighbour's daughter could...err...help? [:'(]

Cheers, Neilster
