is ist possible to install two versions of toaw on one computer (XP)? one version with the actual patch and one older version

Yes. You could copy the entire TOAW III directory over to a new directory. For example, "TOAW III - 3.1.0.9" and drop a shortcut to the executable onto your desktop. Then rename it appropriately so that you don't accidentally run a PBEM game with the wrong executable.
