i've been looking for info on the German fortifications along het French bordr in 1914 - there doesn't seem to be a lot on the 'net tho - does anyone know of any sources?
I have found 1 page in French on hte fortification of Strassbourg after 1870 tho - the english translation is at
http://tinyurl.com/37banb & makes an interesting read once you get past the idiosyncracies of the auto-translator!!

On the main page above there are also photographs of some forts of Festung Metz, and of Liege (germ. Lüttich)
Below some photos of fortress Cologne (germ. Köln)

I believe there is a way to make a sort of URL in Google Earth you can give to others to find places.
