Won’t launch after install

When I press ‘PLAY’ I get the following error message;
“UFO: Extraterrestrials requires graphic card that supports vertex and pixel shaders to run.”
My machine is a Dell DIMENSION DIM4600 and is using an Intel(R)Extreme Graphics 2 card.
OK, I am not computer savvy [8|], so the question is;
Is this card not up to date for this software (if not, what card do I need to upgrade to for this machine) or do I simply need to change some settings (and if so, can someone help me with that?).

Hi just like magicbear, I too get the same error message, for the same reasons. My machine is a P4-2.8ghz, with 1. 5gb Ram, and a Nvidia FX 5500 video card, 256mb. John Tiller's Campaign SEries works fine. And according to Nvidia, this card has vertex and pixel shaders 3.0. Is there a patch we should download first ? Please advise.
Thanks

The latest patch should help with this. Your systems simply don't meet the minimum hardware specs as originally stated. There was also a work-around with a piece of software called 3D Analyzer, which is explained (IIRC) on the dev forums.
With that said, make sure you are also up to date with the LATEST drivers for your video card.
Regards,
- Erik

Ahhhh, cool... I found you addressing my problem. Alright, Erik, let me toss this at you. Everything is up to date, and I got the 3D Analyze. I set it up to emulate and it did in so much that it got rid of the error message and replaced it with another message. I can't rattle the message off the top of my head since the last time I depressed myself with it was back in July, but the new error has to do with the security measures that are in place, and for some reason, it is blocking the emulator.
Now...I cornered one of your boys at Origins about this and they couldn't help me on the floor, of course, and I wasn't really expecting it, but I was trying to find out why I wasn't getting any help from you guys at all. I asked what the settings should be on the 3D Analyze should be so I could get around the security problem, and I was told that he couldn't help me with 3rd party software... which is understandable. Which then asked for him to make it work without the software...and you know what the answer to that is. All I want to do is play the game that I paid for 5 months ago... that's it.
Can you help me out?

I'm pretty sure that patch2 does not have any copy protection anymore so you might not have that problem anymore.

Sorry , the latest patch does not help. Still get the same error message. My drivers are the latest and I'm about to go mad with this, as my card's web site indicates I have pixel-shaders and vertex something. AAArghhh.I need another patch, i guess.

i tried my geforce mx4000 128mb 64bit, couldnt work.
i tried my friend's ati 9250 128mb, 64bit, same problems.
i went to a computer shop tried geforce fx5200 128mb 128bit, no problem, but a bit laggy if all setting were high.
this card very cheap, (Malaysian Dollars $105) around USD$30
i try geforce fx5500 & ati 9550 no problem, both 256mb 128bit. all setting were MAXIMUM. no lag at all.
i can only afford AGP card, because my motherboard is AGP slot.
Finally, i bought ati9550, because USD$10 cheaper (Malaysian Dollars $35).
i am gonna to change the PC around mid of next year. depend on when the starcraft 2 out.

Bman, I got my game going on my old card, but I have a little problem that I hope that the "God of Mod" can help me out with. The walls and some of the items are shadow blocks. I've seen posts about this on other boards and I know that there is a file to fix this, but the links that I found to this file are broken. Any chance for an assist?

Sorry I haven't a clue. I vaguely remember ppl having that problem months ago but have no idea what the solution was.
