1.2 Beta 4 ??

looks like its available. No updated readme file with it though.

The only additional changes made since the first 1.2 beta were modifications to the artillery and food talked about here. And one bug to do with cavalry unable to move into enemy hexes when stacked with assault infantry.

A service message from the friendly internet elf.
For me beta4 was rather hard to find. Disclaimer: It could possibly have to do with my IE cache not being updated, but i think not.
In order to get beta 4 and not beta 2 i had to do following and do precisely this, if going to the ftp server via a webbrowser and not a ftp browser. Else i got the old beta 2 download.
Step 1
Go into members section and possibly log in if needed.
Step 2.
Press registrered downloads
Step 3 and THIS is highly importand
Press the link: Guns Of August 1914 - 1918: DO NOT press at downloads.
Step 4
Press downloads on the left.
Step 5
Press:: 2007 OCT 11 - Guns Of August 1914 - 1918 1.20 (Beta 44MB)
Notice the date is 11th Oct, not the 5th.
If i went in any other way i would get a 5th oct download of beta 2
Check of file after download to see it its the right one is as following.
Oct 5th beta 2 file size: 45.039 kb
Oct 11th beta 4 file size 45.055 kb

a 44mb file? Does that mean it has a corrected map with it - with Ostend, Florence and Athens added in?

I suspect that it isnt meant to be in the public beta 4, but presumably such will be added later.

[:(] What browser are you using? I only tested the link with IE7. Also, are you connecting to the Internet from work or from home? Some companies block FTP access. If FTP doesn't work, you should be able to use method described by Walloc above.

I use Firefox, tried the browser and their ftp. I'm not sure I want to upgrade anyway as I just got the game and am trying to figure things out. But thought it would be interesting to check it out. I might try Walloc's method or just wait till it's offical.

In beta 4, I get this error message every time I hit "OK" when in the Transfer Materials Screen, and there are no eligible countries to send Materials to.
It does not crash the game or anything; after you hit "OK" in the error message the game is (seemingly) back to normal.

SMK has let me know about a new strategic movement bug. Just in case anyone has trouble with it its now fixed.

Just got pasted with 4 x 3 = 12 artillery against a level 2 trench, 3 stacks of infantry, and took 3 hits.
Wow.
Is that just a bad roll?

Actually it was an average roll. This is where 2 6-strength artillery would have done better even though the overall strength is the same.
Each artillery fires individually and so its a 3 strength barrage against a 2 strength trench, times 4. On average, that's just 3 kills.
Firing 2 6-strength artillery units instead would have produced an average of 5 kills.

You also should have lost an average of 1 readiness.
