Questions before buying

Hi: I've been lurking here for a while, checking things out and have a few questions about the game.

I want to buy the game, but my reading shows that it has quite a few bugs left. Are there really that many bugs and are any of them 'show stoppers'? Will they be fixed and when?

How good is the AI? I've been playing since the game first came out many years ago, and still have the 'board' game in my closet. That version, up to the Admirals Edition gave me quite a challenge, but for me, that is not saying a whole lot. So, as I don't have the time to commit to PBEM or mulitplayer, is this a challenging game for a solo player?

Is there a printed manual or is it just a PDF? Not a 'buy', stopper, just a question.

I understand that there are a couple of different databases for the game, each with their own scenarios. How easy is it to change databases?

And finally, how does this compare to HCCE? I'm thinking of buying that one too.

Thanks.

Yes and yes.

That's a pretty good question.

Quite similar to AE, i.e. fairly good on tactics but no grand strategy.

Quite easy, using the H3Launcher utility that is bundled with the game.
And finally, how does this compare to HCCE? I'm thinking of buying that one too.
The PC answer is "they are different games, each with it sown strengths and weaknesses".

Dimitris answered that pretty good so I'm only gonna make a comment on the first two questions.
In it's current form the game has bugs both small and big. While there have been a lot of disputes about what is bugs and what is just so called "changes" it seems that AGSI is now intent on fixing everything broken. But as far as I know no release dates on a possible future patch has been announced...

Well, the bug answer is what I expected, so, given the fact that it's easy to switch db's, and the AI, (any AI for me in fact), is challenging,  I guess I'll be downloading it this weekend.  Reading the manual will give me something to do while the rain falls.

Thanks, guys.

Hehe, yeah the manual can actually be an interesting read. Kind of serves as a tactical guide as well.

Well, I can use all the tactical help I can get.  I could never win the North Cape one, regardless of which side I played.
After I get going, I'll be here, either scanning AAR's for clues or just asking more questions.

Here is a FAQ that may answer that

That is a very informative faq.  Thanks for pointing it out to me.

From what I read on it, looks like I'll need to save some extra cash for the HCCE comes out as it looks to be a fun game as well.

Commanders Edition is re-release (plus extras) of Harpoon Classic.

It's a lot of fun. It looks nicer than ANW.

But it's not multiplayer. Just a word to the wise.

Thanks for the info.
Single player is okay as I don't have the time to play others.
