Potential

What exactly does this number represent, the likelihood of improving? My Closer is not that bad of a pitcher, but his Potential is 1 with a yellow minus sign after it. I've seen up arrows and down arrows, as well. What the lowdown on this stat?

Up arrows would indicate that the player should get better as time goes by. A down arrow would indicate that the player is past their prime and ratings should be decreasing.

The yellow minus means the player has toped out and holding steady.
