First impressions

This evening I've played my first game with GOA, I tried my "Russia &Serbia first" strategy as the Central Powers but played only two turns until now. I'm already very impressed with this game.

1) The mechanism of HQ and refit. You really feel the frustation of a WW1 general with the offensives losing steam and the difficult to keep them going on. Vote 10

2) The replayability value is high. I see lot of strategies to test against the AI and then Pbem games. This make an endless number of possibilities. Vote 10

3) Interface and manual. Definitely this is only a game for grognards interested in WW1. From this point of view I think GOA is a lost occasion, with a better interface this game could appeal to a broader audience among the wargame community. Vote 4

WWI will never be have a broad appeal except with naval miniature buffs. However this design is such a good simulation and so elegant a design, I hope this design group will apply the same creativity to other subjects. American Civil War for one. The wars of Napleon for another. [&o]

Yummie! Another ACW/Nappy game. That would be something refreshing after those tons of Frederick the Great/German Unification/Crimean war games[:'(]

I'd be happy to see WW2 done properly for a change after the rubbish that's come out recently!![8|]

Do you mean AT by that? From what I've read it seems to be rather good, all be it more versatile (sp) than just plain good ol'wwII.

What's AT?

SC2, SCWAW & CEAW are the ones I've played - all very much WW2-lite

Just had a look at the firum here...looks more tactical although the writeup does mention large scale scenarios.

Given it's name does it handle production, national morale, naval, etc?

Well I must say I probably dont fit the stereotype.  I'm a WW2 buff and have been solidly of the opinion that WW1 is boring as hell.  But this game has really turned me around - after reading AARs here I bought the game and am reading a few books about WW1 as well.
