Detected Emissions

I have finally taken the plunge in playing H3 after purchasing some time ago, and I have noticed something that I would like to see improved.

The report screen for contacts only lists what active emissions are detected from a contact (or just acoustic for sonar) and not the detecting sensor. It would be very helpful if this report included a list of all sensors that currently held the selected contact.

As example of the problem; when switching from passive to active sonar if a contact is established from passive it is listed as acoustic: faint/strong/etc, but once positive I.D. is established it changes to large/small etc.

If the detecting unit goes active, nothing is changed to indicate that it has established contact with the now active sensor; the report remains exactly the same.

It would be nice if the information was updated to indicate all detecting sensors (esp. for ASW) and to continue to report the acoustic strength of passive contacts.

Hmm... I think I see where you are coming from.

Active sonar is very short ranged. Unless the contact is within 3NM or so, going active has no effect (apart from indicating your position to the enemy).

One thing that you should notice if the active sonar has picked up the enemy - the position of the enemy should be accurately noted. No red "fog of war" ring to indicate approximate position; instead the position should be accurate.

I like the idea you are proposing, but I can see a couple of snags. One is that, if the enemy is in the middle of a dense sonar field, a helluva lot of sensors will have detected them (same for contact close to a surface groups core zone).

Other snag is - some scenarios have got dummy contacts in them. If one sensor picks up the contact and the other doesn't, sometimes ignoring the dummy contact is the wisest choice, since going active gives away your unit's range and bearing.

I'll think on it some more - could be a very good idea here. Other opinions welcome of course.
