Screen Shots

I am as stupid as it comes when I use a computer. Could someone--in simple terms--explain how I take a screen shot for my AARs? How do I 'take' it? How do I save it? How do I attach it to the Forum posting?

Thanks.

There are a number of ways to do it.  Here's how I do it:

1.  Push the "Prnt Scr" (Print Screen) key.  It should be near the top row of keys and over to the right side of your keyboard.

2.  I then immediately (or within a short time) exit the game and go to Word.  I load a blank page (new document).

3.  Click "Paste"

4.  The screen shot should then appear.  You've done it!

If you want to add features to the Screen Shot and import it into your AAR:

5.  I use Word to insert text, arrows, etc. onto the Screen Shot.

6.  Then I save it. Earlier today, for instance, I saved a Word Document:  Game Score John 1 30 42

7.  I then open Acrobat (because Matrix Games doesn't support Word documents in the Forums).

8.  I load the Word document into Acrobat.  Under Acrobat tools, I use the "Crop" tool to cut out the excessive margins form the top, sides, and bottom.  I like to do this as it makes the image much smaller so that it doesn't take up so much room in my AAR that readers have to scroll to the right to read it.

9.  When I finish cropping, I save it as a JPEG.

10.  Matrix supports JPEGs, so I can upload theJPEG image into my AAR.

Usually, it takes me only five or ten minutes to do all this.

This has been the subject of several threads but searching for them is 'tricky'

I use the 'Paint' program method (standard in Microsoft Windows as an accessory)

1. Capture the screen shot as before
2. Open 'Paint'
3. Paste onto the blank page
4. Use the 'select' tool (hashed rectangle) and draw box around the part of image you want to use
5. 'Cut' or 'Copy' this selection
6. Open new Paint document (you can not save previous image if you don't need it anymore)
7. Paste into new doc
8. Add arrows/text as required
9. Save as a .JPG

OK thats not elegant but it works for me. To insert into a post for your AAR:

1. Click the 'Embed picture in post' tick box, then select 'Click here to upload'
2. Browse to your saved image and then click OK
3, Wait for message indicating successful upload (note file size limit of 200Kb), click OK
4. finish post in normal way

Here's one I just did -

EDIT: Darn it I forgot to crop the image [:@]

You can find another tutorial for screenshots and forum attachments in section 3 here:

Canoerebel, no offense, but that is the most complicated method of making screenshots I've ever heard of. Why don't you use a graphic program in the first place, so you can skip Word and Adobe? Try Paint, or IrfanView, or any other (free) graphic program available on the Internet! [:)]

No offense taken.  I'm no computer Wizard.  I'm self taught and Word is the program I'm used to.  I did try one other program - PhotoShop - but it doesn't work well, so I went back to Word.  Now I'll try PaintShop!
