2 Michael's are better than 1 - ny59giants (a) vs. 1eyedjack (j)

Looks like it is finally going to happen. The long awaiting re-match of a postponed PBEM will begin shortly (we had started a game in Spring 06, but we had to stop in 7/06 due to my continous computer problems [:@]).

1EyedJack (Michael) against me, NY59Giants, (Michael). Hence the name of our AAR. [:D] Our last names even begin with a "B" so that cannot be used either.

This will a joint AAR as we both tend to talk smack to each other. I will try to offer enough speed bumps to slow him down as we play Nemo's latest version of Empire Ablaze. Here are the house rules (subject to change).

HOUSE RULES - RHS

1) We should be able to talk/communicate if we see something going on in the game that makes it no fun to play.
2) Non-historical 1st turn: The Japanese "may" move LCU's from their historical start positions to "major" bases throughout the Pacific (Truk, Kwajalein, Palau, Saigon, Camranh Bay, Formosa, Home Islands, etc.) From there they can be sent on turn 2 to invade where ever.
3) Multiple port attacks allowed on turn 1. This game is Japan against the world, so the restrictions have been removed. He's going for Russia from the start.
4) ASW TFs cannot exceed 6 ships \
5) Allied player may only give orders to Allied warships (not AK/AP) already at sea on turn 1
6) No units of the Kwangtung HQ may be moved out of the area without first paying the applicable PP costs (Land or Air units)
7) No 4e level-bombing below 11,000' when set for naval attack. B-29's are not allowed to be set on naval attack.
8) Invasions only on base or dot hexes.
9) Cadre evacuations allowed.
10) Single-ship TFs are allowed to the end of 12/41. Afterwards, there must be two or more. This is to compensate for the game mechanics usually allowing 1 ship TF not being attacked
11) "Training" your squadrons in China is fine. The Allies may use "same-hex supply training" of bomber squadrons
12) No Japanese LCU naval invasions north of Tavoy until Singapore falls.
13) "Be realistic" with cutting off troops for surrender. A whole Btn would be sufficient to cut off a unit, but a few squads = no.
14) Allied Combat TFs at sea at start may issue new orders, but may not load troops on turn 1.
15) Sub evac = ok. Sub invasion = not ok.
16) The torpedo-carrying variant of the Me-264 CANNOT be used for PORT ATTACK as its torpedo dives too deep and would just bury itself in the sediment.
17) The PGM-equipped (guided missile-equipped) version of the Me-264 CANNOT be operated at less than 20,000 feet. If it does it is far too accurate so 20,000 feet is the limit.

Let the conflict begin.
Plans for turn 1 may consist of this -
I'm following the standard attacks that are built into turn 1 in this mod. I'll be hitting Manila and Vladistovok to try and kill some of those damned subs...
He's not playing nice from the beginning. [;)]

LOL! This isn't a mod for playing nice. This is fang's out all the way [:D].

Good luck to both of you. I hope you enjoy the game and feel free to report any bugs or suggestions for improvement/balance.

Hi Michael,

Getting close to having this 1st turn done. After looking at the house rules again I think we should modify rule 5 to allow you to do the following on turn 1:

A) Move Chinese forces to your heart's content as China/Japan are already @ war.
B) Use Russian/British Recon aircraft.

It'll be fun playing with you again - I really enjoyed our first game.

Are you and John holding out for the new/improved version of RHS? I'm very interested in seeing how the production model works for the allies. I hope that whoever takes the side of the allies will share how that system works.

I've been studying the production for Japan in this mod and it is absolutely going to be a nightmare. Nemo gives both sides of this mod options upon options upon options. The challenge looks to be in plotting a production process that matches my strategy. It looks like it would be very smart for the Japanese side to have a long-term strategy already in mind when starting the game and then decide which shipping and air units to invest in...

As his opponent WAITING for the newest RHS update--Scen 70 or 71, I look forward to reading this.  I'll--as rightly should be--be playing the Japanese and cannot wait to mess with the multi-layered production model.  Should be a nightmare--meaning a BLAST--to work with.

With the new map, expanded map, differing ships and aircraft, I know that I will have to revise my strategy.

Since this is a joint AAR, I don't imagine that we shall see much in the way of strategic planning.

Good Luck and, more importantly, BANZAI!

That's simple, just take the SRA, dig in, and wait for my counter attack.
That will save you a whole lot of headaches. [:D][:D]

John's going to have his own AAR, so you two can compare notes on how the Japanese production system is messed up without Allied interference. [;)]  Just don't get too friendly on his AAR. [:D]
strategic planning.
kick his butt!!

I don't think Michael reads Japanese so why not talk strategy? [;)][;)]

This AAR is more for fun and to talking smack but there will probably be some general strategy talk - maybe to discuss past victories. I'll definitely want to discuss where the Boise is and how best to sink her [:D]

2-0 Redsox in the 5th!

The pride of the Japanese Army Air Force - this captured plane has been studied by Intelligence and Design teams...

I'm gunna bomb the ever-living-stuffing out of Michael with these. I think if I can capture the city of Boise, in Idaho, they have a plant there so I can make even more of these fiendish bombers... Ahhh - a long-term strategy plan begins to develop [:D]

I've sent Michael the turn so now I'm in wait-mode. Here's a picture of China. I'll try to post some eye-candy when I'm in this AAR - I like pictures.

Here is a picture of China. A very pretty map, I must say. A totally hosed war front in China too [8|]

Now I've got other turns to process - TTFN.

Michael,
Looks like I may have a pwhex issue and sent Nemo an email. I also found some minor errors.

For those (like me) who are not familar with RHS and some of its mods, the river to Hankow takes shipping and is considered a port.

Tomorrow, I will get my turn done and back to Michael.
Going through each base/TF/LBA to see what I have (and don't have).

This is a new toy for me. [:D]

I'll watch this one with interest. Will you be posting pictures of all the new toys?

This must be why there is no turn in my inbox...[:'(]

Do they tell you what the writing on that airplane means? I assure you this has nothing to do with RTAF![:D]

Oh - the writing says AM 94. That's the radio station for Tokyo Rose... The station purchased advertising rights in an attempt to boost their ratings. Most of my Japanese troops don't speak english but they like the music. [:'(]

True - guilty as charged [:(]. Between trying to get the 1st turn to Michael on a totally unfamiliar map along with devising an initial strategy, watching my Chi-Bears lose to the dratted Lions, taking my son out for an hour to do some practice driving <shrudder>, and getting a turn off to Scott, plus some honey-doooos, Sunday was a very busy day.

I did run our turn last night - I just waited until this morning to enter my moves and send it back to you (you have mail).

And I have mail as Scott has already sent me back the turn from our game. I probably won't get to it until tonight tho - it's almost 0600 and I've got to get my day on-[:)].

Hi John,

Here's is part of Japan's initial Top Secret strategy - Operation ButtKick.

Japan has moved many IJA air units to Formosa in secrecy for the initial surprise attacks. Naval units from carriers will also partake of this combined air operations plan for eliminating enemy subs in Manila.

Eh... I think you know this. But this particular aircraft actually belonged to communist chienese army, back in 1931... These writing means "Lenin", so it seems somewhat ironic...
