Naval asset as TE

Hi, I just found someone to play against in a PBEM. I was just wondering what you usuually do to protect the british communication with it's colonies in a PBEM. Against the CPU you can just leave all of your surface vassel in the north sea, and he doesn't ever try to pass in the Atlantic. But against a human ( and having done it often against the CPU, I guess he will go for the Atlantic. ) Do you try to keep a presence in the North sea and in the Atlantic or do you forget the atlantic all togetter?

Another thing, in the rulebook it seems to say that you can put your transport on shipping duty in any sea zone, and then your transport will be used in a sea that is not controled by the other player. Is that right or is it wrong. I never tryed it. but it seems to me as if it shouldn't work like this...

Anyway thanks.

Another stupid question: How do you take screenshot and post them. I might want to make an AAR.

Welcome to the game :)

As the TE you have to keep control of the Atlantic, and to a lesser extent the Med.  If you put your ships in hte North Sea then any sortie by German ships will ahve to pass through them to get to the Atlantic.  However cruisers as raiders can be very damaging, so the British Battlecruisers are very good at catching and killing them.

the ideal mix is probably all hte DN's on patrol in the Nth Sea, with 4 destroyers as ASW escort.  2 BC's and all the CA's on patrol in the Atlantic along with 2 British and 3 French DD's on ASW.  The French DN's can protect the Eastern Med.

the British should put all their required shipping out - 7 in the Atlantic, 2 in the Eastern Med.  The French should put their 2 in the Atlantic too.....it's easier to protect them all in the Atlantic rather than having them spread around the Med.

Having 1 TR on Amphibious in the Eastern Med allows you to move troops between Alexandria and India, and into/out of Scutari (Serbia)....this is very important too.

Most of your amphibious transport should be in the Atlantic - again being protected by the concentrated fleets.  However on T1 then you need a couple in the Nth Sea to move the BEF directly to Belgium or Nth France - moving them to Brest is useless since there's no strat movement capacity in the 1st turn to then get them to the front line.  I usually allocate more amphibs than required to this, since it is a very important move to make and you dont' want to be unable to do it jsut because you had a couple of transports damaged!

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I already knew about the French transport and DD wich usually see a high amount of action in the Atlantic. Are you sure that using my DN in the North sea will block the German's DN? Never did seems to do this for me! ( When I play CP, my DN usually gets threw the British fleet's blockade in the North see. )

Anyway thanks for the Hint.

Could you tell me why does Alexandria AND egypt alwasy seems to be out of supply? How could I change that. I have tryed supply mission, but never seemed to help. Is it only the nefarious supply bug.

I have seen amphibious move in scutari not resolve, do you know why to? Exemple, I moved 1 corp and 1 british Hq from plymouth to scutari. When the turn resolved, both were still stuck in Plymouth!!!!

And about the Amphibious on first turn. If the German sortie en force in the north sea, he could contest the north sea. Which makes it's impose to amphib in the north sea. Isn't that a big enought disadvantage for you not to try and amphib there?

Also, do you ever rebase your ships? what's the advantage of that? Ship stay longer at sea in a closer sea? I usually rebase my french transport in Brest and 3 DD to use in the Atlantic. Is this a waste of naval asset?

Aer you using 1.2 beta 6?  If so the supply problem in hte Mid-east is a bug.

Ships are supposed to suffer interception from enemy in sea zones tehy pass through, but I'm not sure of the odds.

the only ships I rebase are French to Brest so they have longer in the Atlantic, and Germans to Rostock so they don't have to sail into the Nth Sea in order to patrol the Baltic.

My German ship usual gets intercepted by the royal navy. Still usually some elements make it threw. And I get to wreck havoc on the ennemy communication lines. Anyway I tried something and I will see. I will also try some stuff by myself at home in hotseat mode.

If the enemy ships get through your cordon in the Nth Sea then they would probably go through it in the Atlantic and get to attack the transports there too IMO.

I think it should be that the Nth Sea is the place to catch German ships since it was constricted with limited exits, while it should be more difficult to catch them in the Atlantic.
