Thinking on Text Files

I've played through the monster Steel Shield once. Took 14 hours, as the Americans. I got a draw, but had the upper hand at the end of 40 turns.

I've started today as the Germans to see where this will lead.

I have in mind including something for the larger scenarios in the text file and/or as an attachment.

It would be a resume of objective locations and another of the units in the battle. A battle this size requires at least some mental bookkeeping and some serious map searching for those 21 objectives scatted over a map well over 10 miles in length and 3 miles deep.

What do you think? Or should it be a separate document as an aid to play? Or both?

Separate doc so I could run it in the background and look at it as needed. THX! WB Image

In any possible future version, it might be neat to have a sidebar button that would pop up the file. I suppose you'd have to deal with some coding issues there. It would eliminate alt-tabbing and fiddling with windows.

Seems that such in-depth documents will be essential once we get to these LARGE battles. And once we get used to having such a play-aid, we'll want them available for every scenario -- no matter how small.

I'd like to see it accessible within the game.

A text file would be enough for me because I will probably print it no matter how it is presented. I'd want to see the battlefield at the same time as the piece of paper. I need something I can scribble on.

I'm one for having everything as possible accessable from within the game engine.
