Creating a 2nd, 3rd, etc. unit

I've created myself a "random map" of three regimes, two of them set to AI. (I still haven't figured out how to change their names). I start my turn, set my production at my initial city, which contains my original HQ.
I assume that what I set to produce there, will be produced EACH turn, unless I change it. That was certainly the case in the "tutorial". Following the tutorial example I created some infanty, created a "unit" out on my border, and transferred said infantry into the unit. All's well so far. Move to next turn, and some more infantry are automatically created back at my HQ. Now this new batch of Infantry I want to make a NEW unit out of, and transfer to a different location. Can't get it to work. Even though I followed the same steps from the tutorial, I get the FROM and the TO screen, but when I click on Infantry I can't get it to give me the slider to specify how much to move.
What am I doing wrong?
