David,
I would like to add custom bump maps to my uniforms and player details.
Could these be saved with the uniform files?

Bump maps are not editable files.

Bump maps are not editable files.
Bump maps themselves are editable files. Modders for 3D games edit them often.
What you are stating is that bump maps are not user editable files in Maximum Football.
Is that correct?
If so, is there a reason that the uniform bump maps cannot be stored as a user editable file like the artwork is? Do they have to be precoded as a part of the 3D player models?

The bump maps for Maximum-Football are not editable files. They're not in a user editable format and even the slightest mistake in their creation causes the game to crash. So they're locked away and I don't expose them. The only artwork available for user editing/creation is the base uniform textures.
thanks
David

All right.
Thank you for the quick answer on that, David.

Okay, it's entirely possible that my four-month-old may be more computer savvy than me, so I'll go ahead and ask:
What the hell is a Bump Map?

Bump mapping is a graphics technique used to give the illusion of additional 3D geometry. For example the bump mapping technique I use in game gives the effect of the raised ridge down the centre of the helmet. That ridge isn't modelled into the 3D model, but the bump mapping effect casts a shadow like there is a ridge there.

There are various techniques to make the effect work, but the graphics card needs to support the technique used.
