Navy (and Air Force)

Just my opinion of course, but Manuals that don't tell me HOW to do things, but rather just tell me ??? just kind of frustrate me. Then again, it is probably all my fault. But, too the questions:
1. My random scenario has my starting city right next to the sea. How convenient! So, after sending out a bit of infantry I made some Destroyers. How in the world do I get to MOVE them? I click on the hex, select "new unit" and get an infantry type thing. I think I need a little "step-by-step" to solve this. (Page 31 on Naval Unit Production was unclear to me.)
2. I have the feeling the same thing might come up if I make some planes, but maybe not. Since planes just "fly out and back" on the same turn???

Rik81,
Click on the new formation button. When you have a new formation, transfer the ships to that formation from your hq as you would with land units.

The tutorial in the manual does a good job of explaining this.

IMPOSSIBLE (that's in red letters, [:D]. In LAND units, you click an empty land hex and that becomes a TO hex. I've tried that in an ocean hex to no avail, I've tried another land hex (bordering on the sea) to no avail, and tried the same city hex, "impossible". Something I am just not getting here. "Impossible" is the word, that actually appears, in red, on my screen when I clicki on the Destroyers from the FROM box.

It does very well for Infantry, but that doesn't seem to work for ships (at least for me?)

OK, try this:
1. Select the hex with your HQ that has ships in it or the sea hex next to it.
2. Select "Make New Unit" button, you get an empty unit button.
3. Select the HQ again and then the green check mark at the right to make the new unit report to the HQ.
I think from your description you've done up to here.
4. Select the HQ again, then the "Transfer" button. Slect the new empty unit.
5. Tranfer ships to the empty unit the same way you do infantry, only now it becomes a sea unit.
Wait until next turn, then you should be able to move the new sea unit just like infantry.
Hope that helps.

Rik81,
I will try and explain a bit better than my previous attempt.
1) Make new unit at your location.
2) Set HQ as normal.
3) Click on your HQ.
4) Click on transfer.
5) Select your naval sub-formation. (It does say impposible at this point but bear with me)
6) Click on your new unit.
7) Select the quantity to move and then click 'do transfer'
That should do it.

Great minds Dave![:D]
Hopefully between the two he can get it.
OH, and it's exactly the same for aircraft.

THANKS! Finally got it. I think it would of been easier for me, if my HQ were actually sitting on the hex outside the coastal city (like it is sitting in the Tutorial, next to, but not "in" the city.) Anyway, finally got the "empty TO" screen to show up and did a transfer. It was also important to note, that just like the infantry, you have to actually wait till the next turn, before you can move out.
Thanks for the help. I just need to practice this some more till it becomes second nature.

Yes, it would be a lot nicer if when you choose a new unit you can choose a new unit on a sea square near the town producing it...and then transfer a ship unit over to that unit...making a new unit on your sea town itself just clutters things up.

I am brand new both to the forum and to the game and I want to see if I can post a reply. Try building your new formation on the producing city the turn before the naval unit appears. I think the naval unit will appear within the empty formation, and can move that turn.
