Patch Request List

I thought I'd start a thread of requests for additions for the first patch to help make a good game even better.
I'll reiterate the need for clearer goals. I started the first scenario, and every town seems to be worth 10 VP's, leaving me generally clueless in terms of formulating an overall plan.
It would also be nice to be able to sort the army list according to morale, cohesiveness, no. of infantry, etc; as well as sort the list of generals by attribute.

More historical battle result!
First time I see Austrian army so strong. they win nearly all battle or they suffer less loss than the French!
I woold be pleased if somebody could explain me the result of the battle below
austrian 1300 inf+700 cav =237 power vs 800 cav 6000 inf and 8 gun=338 power
result: a franch defeat

2gaulle,
Your image link seems to be broken.
As you probably know, there's a lot more to a power rating than straight numbers of troops. It also varies based on artillery, ranged fire or melee being involved, from what I've seen. What was the leadership, terrain, experience, morale, readiness, cohesion, supply, etc. ?
Regards,
- Erik

I do know that - which is why making the list of armies sortable by morale, cohesiveness, etc. useful.

tgb,
I hear you and I'll pass that on to the developer, I was just replying to 2gaulle and asking for more info since I could not actually speak to his example without more knowledge of the other battle factors.

2gaulle,
Thanks, I can see the screenshot now. I'm not sure why the French are losing that one, though a 1/3 power advantage is not a guaranteed victory. If you want, e-mail me the save file at
erikr@matrixgames.com and I'll see if I can figure anything out. If not, I'll pass it on to the developer for comment.

- Erik

I wonder if there's a memory leak going on here. You're the second person I've seen that has noticed a slowdown after a few game turns.

Try playing it out as a tactical battle, and I think you'll get a much more realistic result. In "For Liberty" (and probably "1848" also) the autobattles periodically give anomalous results, and I expect this is true for "Napoleon in Italy" also. This was not a big problem in "1848" where you were given an estimate of the expected result and could avoid very unfavorable attacks ("1848" does not have tactical battles).
In "For Liberty" only "Alfred" (the AI) has access to the expected results of autobattles, so it can avoid combats where autobattles would go against it. The human player however, can sometimes get tripped up by it. Fortunately, the tactical battles are quite realistic in "For Liberty", and seem to have been made even more so for "Napoleon in Italy". The solution,in my opinion, is always use tactical battles unless the odds are truly overwhelming, or unless you want to give an extra edge to the computer.

If that is, so that is a bug. However, we have no reports from others about such an occurance. Could you send us a list from the end of a battle?

Luck and leaders play an important role in battles. In the long run, statistically the stronger army wins most of the time. But history is full of examples where the weaker army has won a battle, due to individual heroism, the enemy losing morale, or the enemy general getting shaken. No battle ever was a decided affair just because one army was stronger. You can never be sure...

here I have 2 battles results screens of the battle situation.
the first one is a tactical battle screen
the second one is from a automatic battle resolution
In both case the defender and the attacker are exactly the same, but the figure are differents.
In fact the tactical battle result screen do not show all.
the total austrians force from the operational map are
inf guns
bellegarde 3588 6
colli 5563 34
hohenzolern 3560 12
melas 7778 15
20489 67
but the total in battle screen result are
ligne light grenadier gun
autrian 11571 787 4632 26 16990
also during this battle I'm nearly shure than the austrians do not loose only 25 guns, some was able to rout but certainly not 2/3.
by the way I have the saves for before, after the battle and the last tactical battle turn if you witch

It's look like your give to the austrian mutch more power than they historicaly have. Individual heroism was not usual in austrian army.

In this case it looks like both the tactical battle and the historical battle gave realistic results. It appears that more Austrians "marched to the sound of the guns" and and joined the autobattle compared to the tactical battle, but that sort of variation is reasonable. Perhaps the autobattles in "Napoleon in Italy" have been "tweaked" to give more consistiently realistic results than in "For Liberty". If so that is very good news, since I really like being able to use autobattle with confidence.
Still the results shown in 2gaulle's earlier post continue to worry me, since a vastly superior French force, commanded by an outstanding general, was defeated by a decidedly inferior Austrian force under a mediocre commander (despite the fact that the Austrians suffered twice as many casualties as the French). As Hussar points out, such things are not impossible, but they should be extremely rare.

no "marched to the sound of the guns" at all as all austrians was inside the same hex.

2gaulle:
These are pretty good sized hexes (20 km?) and during the tactical battles even units in the same hex may take some time to reach the field of battle, or not arrive at all (presumably the battle ends before they arrive). I expect that is what happened in this case, which would account for why fewer Austrians took part in the tactical battle compared to the autobattle.

absolutly not, it's clearly indicate in the rules, unit in same hex are allways engage in the battle. Also the 4 austrians generals were present.

I guess that must be one if the changes in the new game compared to "For Liberty". I'm really anxious to play this one, but will probably wait and see if I get it for Christmas (I have it on my list). [:D]
