Call of Duty 4

I expect not many people would be interested in this, but I thought I would just post my findings.
I've been playing Call of Duty 4 now for about 4 hours and it's absolutely spectacular. I was extremely wary because I thought the previous 2 were just OK in my view.
Sure the gameplay is probably what you've become accustomed to, but this really is a cinematic feast.
The missions are exceptional in that they give you a sense of being in a tense firefight.
There is a mission where you are on a C130 Gunship (AC-130?) which is just too short in that it is really authentic...infra-red with 20mm, 40mm and 105mm at your disposal and you have to take out targets whilst avoiding friendly fire...exceptional.
If you want to watch a video of, it, look here...
AC-130 Video
A sniper mission which just oozes atmosphere and is extremely tense.
They are just awesome and those two alone are worth the £30.
The graphics left me awestruck and the game runs at a very steady 30 FPS on my mediocre system (Windows XP SP2, AMD Athlon XP3200+, 2GB Value RAM, nVidia 7950GT 512MB)
I wouldn't dare recommend anyone buy it... not here [;)]
I just wanted to pass on my opinion and say that this is an extremely tense, atmospheric cinematic feast of a game.
Of course, you have to take it for what it is...a cinematic FPS. That is to say, you are "playing a part in a movie", but it is head and shoulders above any FPS I have ever played.
The missions are very, very high calibre

Superb game, absolutely superb. My favourite is probably the sniper mission as well, though the AC-130 mission is a close second.
The Call of Duty series has always been far, far better than Medal of Honor and now it's better than Ghost Recon.

As T says, it's available on all 3 platforms.
I've just completed it, and I have to say it really does stink of quality. It looks great. It plays great. It sounds great. The movies don't get tiring. The AI voice is great...lots of dialog and different dialog too.
The sniper mission was the ultimate in gameplay. Truly amazing.
Best £30 I've spent on a game this year. It was a short ride (just about 7 hours on easy?) but what a ride.
I've also heard the online play is pretty cool. Not a big fan of online play, but we'll see. The game is most definitely worth a second go, especially seeing as I played the first half of it with alot of "black" textures (I needed to update my graphics drivers to 169.04 (BETA) drivers for nVidia)...can't wait to see the rest of the game in all it's glory.

Damn that video looked almost 100% like the real thing [X(]
I remember seeing a AC-130 video from irak or maybe it was afganistan where a group of soldiers on the ground was observing for it takeing out some enemys.

Yup, that's 99% realism for you. The last 1% is actual people dying every time you pull the trigger.

This game has universally gotten good reviews. While I'm not a huge FPS person anymore it might still be one I put on the Xmas wishlist!

I can't seem to get up the interest to buy COD4. Even at COD3 It still seemed like more of the same. From the console perspective the only real draw is the theatre as the likes of Shadowrun, Halo 3, or even Gears of War are all better multi-player shooters (And hence much more replayable).
A better buy for your $59.99 if you ask me..
Is it really that different an experience from Call of Duty 3 to warrant another $59.99 for the 8 Hours of time it takes to finish the game?!?

I upgraded my computer midyear and was wondering if any FPS games would come out to rekindle my interest. When Call of Duty 4 came out I read some good reviews and had a gift voucher burning a hole in my pocket.
I took the plunge and was surprised how much I am enjoying it. The online play is fun, the rankings, challenges and classes make it a solid gaming experience.

I love the CoD series, but the singleplayer is way too short at least in CoD2. And since my Internet connection sucks too much for multiplayer game.
I've read that the SP in CoD4 is even shorter than in the second iteration. Is it true?

I found a couple of burnt discs titled Booty Call 4 and Booty Duty 4 in my teenage son's bedroom. Do they have anything to do with this game?
Cheers, Neilster

Yes it is short. About 7 hours for me on the setting above easy...but the story, the way it's played, the way it's displayed, the voice acting....all come together to make it a sensational game.
I am very, very pleased with my purchase and I expect to be playing it in the future. As soon as I finished the single player campaign, I started a new campaign on the next difficulty level.
Online is very good too. Of course, finding a good server with team work and VOIP is essentially to really enjoy it, but jumping into team deathmatch is good for a quick fix.
Seriously, though, the sniper mission and AC130 missions were worth the £30. I wouldn't have said that before playing the game obviously. And I too wasn't going to buy it on the basis that it was about 7 hours of gameplay, but now that I do have it, and I have played it, it's more than worth the money.
And the missions are that good that I wanted to play them again....so I'm going to get at least 14 hours out the game...and I expect I will play it on the hardest setting, meaning around 20 hours. The missions are that good.
