Retaining AP during Combat

Normally in combat attacking units do combat until they end their AP.
Is there a way to retain a certain number of AP and stop combat before they are all used?

I remember that in PT1 artillery units with more than 3 movement points could attack and then move back with their last MP.

It would be nice, also in AT, to have the possibility to move back from the frontline artillery units after their bombardment, even if they attack for fewer rounds and then in a lighter way.

Thanks.

Max.

It's currently not possible, but I already made a similar request.
So I second your's, would be a nice feature.

I second this good idea, it could be done with a setting like the one for losses (ie where you could set if you attack for 10-30-50-80 or max AP).

Also, I lack artillery defensive fire support... It would be nice also to have artillery contribute a couple rounds of fire when adjacent units are attacked.

Yep. Good idea. I 4th this idea, to be able to limit the number of APs you expend in an attack, before breaking off.

Poor Vic, more headaches to consider. Let's hope there's good sales for this game.

Hey, i´m glad to see that. Made that request long time ago !
Now Vic get some feedback on this point.

Want to be able to move ships in fire and move out.
Want artillery and planes splitting their attacks especially when the units are bigger.
Why wiping one unit out completeyl instead of hitting hard 2 different targets ?
That would be a helpful thing such a AP Reserve.

But i don´t see this as a standard thing always to allow the artillery to move back.
NOOOO !
Player has to set a AP Reserve before his attack and plan carefully.
Sometimes i want to use the full 10 rounds of combat and sometimes only 5 rounds.
That´s the point. This should be no feature to make the artillery more save generally.

HMMM... Sounds like an interesting feature.
Could change the way a turn plays out quite a bit...More like TOAW...

 I've given this some thought.
For me the biggest draw in this game is the supply and production part. Having that kind of control in this type of game is pretty awsome...And as much as I like TOAW , I wonder if that wouldn't be a little too much micro managment to have that much control over both those aspects of the game?
    Just a thought.
