If my units are set to intercept, it seems they all intercept regardless of enemy air composition if they are in range. This seems to allows an expliot where the enemy can send a single sacrificial lamb, then raid at his hearts content with no enemy interceptors.
At least it seems that way, is that correct?

You can set the readiness level of the planes that intercept as low as 25%. This means that they will intercept until they get down to that point. The sacrificial lamb only works to a point since a small force will be destroyed without reducing readiness by this much. If the forces are even, this is a bad strategy as you are now committing your forces piecemeal.
Play a couple games with Seille if you want to brush up on your air tactics. ; )

It´s exactly like tweber wrote. Forget the sacrificial lamb. It will die fast and the enemy forces will not lose
much readiness. If you have luck they´ll lose enough, so they are not longer available to intercept the full range.
Means instead of 5 hexes they can then intercept only 4 hexes which can give a significant advantage.
I would never try such a sacrifice stunt. Wasting of own units.
Make a recon flight to check if the hex is defended. If not send the divebombers and
knock out the damn tanks and artillery in that hex.
When you do these recon flights on the right hexes you can figure out where the enemy has his planes
and if they´re set on intercept or more defensive. And you´ll see which additional hexes you can strike
without enemy interception. I actually prefer to keep my planes on a safe place protected by flak
and don´t let them intercept when i know they don´t do enough damage compared to the losses.
Set them accidently on intercept and the next thing they´ll try is to intercept a enemy formation with 50 fighters......
When the time is come i try to hit the enemy as hard as possible. But often that´s not that easy since i play PBEM only....

How do you actually set fighters to intercept and so forth??

- Select a Unit with Air Sub-Formations.
- In the lower right of the Unit Info Area, you'll see 4 boxes aligned in a column.
- Mouse-Over the box labeled "Intcp" and you'll see text appear between the map and the Info that says "Intercepts only if Readiness greater than specified." The default setting in the box is "Don't"
- Click on the value in the box and it will toggle to 75, then 50, then 25, then back to Don't.

I saw several times units attack and be intercepted, and then subsequent attacks not be intercepted, thinking the rule regarding multiple attacks by similar units would create a better attack if I split up my attackng force into two or three waves.
