dont know about the rest of you but I am having a heck of time just trying to get my armies corps and divisions formed. Also I need more two star generals. But I am unable to promote and that it says are promotible. Lew Wallace says yes but the icon to do it doesnt light up. There is so much I dont understand about this game. The manual doesnt give you any idea how to promote just says you can. Took me three days just to get a few divisions together. Have finally got 2 corps togehter but not up to full power. Have not really started being aggressive yet as I cant seem to get everthing to work yet. Am in the 5 or 6 turn I believe. It is very hard with all the congestion around dc to even see let alone try and put divisions and corps together. Cant get any hq units so I can created another army this would help as that would get rid of some of the clutter.
Going to keep trying I guess and maybe some day soon I will figure out how to make divisions and corps with some where near the proper strength and units and get them where i want them and begin to kick some butt. It isnt that I dont know how to make them jsut having a hard time making it work. Sure would like to promote wallace tho and 2 others that say I can but I cant due to the icon not coming up. Or is it somethign im not doing with the general before i try and promote. There is no flag on the general and nor did anything come up in the reports so far. just took a look at him and on the stat sheet it says yes to promotion.

You can't promote generals as you wish, they have to prove their worth in battle. And even doing so can irrate the old hats out there.
'yes' on the general detail panel does not means he is promotable 'now', it means he is potentially promotable, = there is a new entry for him in the database.
Be sure to be in the latest patch, which is 1.07f (1.07g is under testing though).

SO I have to wait until I actually see it say he is promotable in the report field before I can do the promotion is this true. Its true niether wallace or keyes had made it to the front line let alone ingaged in any fighting. Guess i will get them equipped with a bunch of units and send them into battles as quik as I can . its early in the war and I really need thme forcorp leaders. Only have two that can lead corps early in 1861. Guess it wouldnt hurt to let them get there feet wet early as just a division at manassass or to take alexandria might be better.
This game sure makes you think. To balance out how much and how fast to got o industrilization. Coupled along with how many and how fast to increase your army. Tough to judge where to make your units appear to like what state can get them to the front line fastest. I figure that if i can build 3 units per turn that by1863my army will have increased by 75 percent or more. Each infantry unit you create is somewhere near 1500 men thats like 4500 men per turn times 30 turns is near 135000 men.

To promote a leader to a new rank, it is specifically needed that:
[*]He is potentially promotable (the database must have an entry for his new grade). This is indicated by a 'Yes' in the 'Is Promotable' line, element detail window.
[*]He has a seniority of 1 or 2 in his current rank OR
[*]He has gained 4 points of seniority since he appeared on map (the base seniority is under brackets in the the Element Detail Window, top panel section). [/ul]

How does one gain seniority for his generals?

Define 'prove himself in battle'. Do generals gain seniority for merely participating in battels or for winning them.

I've been sending all of my generals into battle and they don't seem to be gaining seniority.
What gives?
Some have been on the winning side and some have lost but their seniority never changes from what is indicated as their base seniority in brackets.

You have to understand that the game puts you into the same situation as was the case in 1861. You have to use the generals that are there even if they are not that good. Such is the case of the north. Heck your lucky if you get a corp or army in the north to move at all.
I use Banks and Little Mac to form armies. I send a lot of brigades to Kentucky and wait for Grant and try to hold as much of the state as possible. It will be a year at least before you can do much in the east. You willhave your hands full just keeping the rebs out of Washinton and Harpers ferry. Welcome to the civil war.
