Mario (USSR)-vs-Willie (Germany)
Barbarossa 41´ TOAW Classic

For now I will just be covering the critical center. I´m sure his first objective will be to capture Minsk as rapidly as possible.

Turn -1-

Oh....really? You think?[8|]

first objective

first objective

first obective

Then I suspect his second objective to be Smolensk.

Then his third, final, and primary objective will be Moscow.

Or that´s what I would do in the center anyways. [8D]

That is a losing strategy, the best strategy is to bypass Minsk and smolensk and head straight to Moscow via Velikiye Luki. Send only some infantry to hold the line around Leningrad, stop advancing in the south once you hit Dnepr and use AGN and AGS panzer groups and all reserves  as your stratgic reserve for a sustained attack on Moscow.

..almost there..

..pick one reasonably straight railway line, i like the one that comes in south of Leningrad around the lake, put virtually everything that has wheels or tracks attacking up it and allot virtually all arriving infantry to the attack either at the front or to expand from and so protect the railway, send virtually all RR units to rebuild the dam' thing..

..you should end up very early south of L'grad on the end of a kind of Christmas tree with a supply happy force and the turn North or South option..L'grad and Moscow before winter..

Speak of the devil and he will show up. Willie attempts an end run flank around Smolensk to Moscow.

I try to follow this thread as I am playing a similar scenario, but in the movies I can´t tell which of the two scenes is first. I do not know if the russians are advancing to the front or retreating.

Also it strikes me to see units in "L" mode, or units dug in that are set to minimize losses. Can you give me a glimpse of what is your strategy?

I´m the Russians, I am definately retreating. My strategy is to let him expend his power and stop him outside Moscow.

edit-I´ll put a ¨1¨ and a ¨2¨ on the frames from now on.

Thanks for that.

You do realize that by holding only Moscow you don´t win the game. Where else will you try to make your stand to prevent lossing? Or maybe this is too much information that your opponent might read?

I´m not above editing portions of my map when it comes to force allocation and strength. [;)]

I plan on holding a Leningrad, Moscow, Kiev line by the end of the game.

Still making him burn momentum at Smolensk. Shock effects are now off and a Soviet line begins to materialize and solidify...will it become a static line? Let´s hope.
