Graphical unit counter mod

Hi,
(sorry for my poor english, i'm french...)
I bought this wargame last week and i'm very happy to play such a game like this, but i am a little bit disapointed by :
1 - the resolution restriction (but it's JAVA and i don't know how to modify this...)
2 - the graphical design of the counter (i'm a fan of the traditional boardgame design...)
So, if i can do nothing for the first point, i can do something for the second (i'm graphist). I take my photoshop, my scanner and my collection of osprey's book (and other too).
Here is what i do for begining to replace the original markers (it's a first job, if you have any suggestions, i'll be very happy that you express here). You can see that some counters are not finished for now. I'm working on the ship counters too.

Hi (once again)
There is the screenshoots (1024x768 pictures, it's big for a forum but it's for game graphic illustrating...) :
The battle for France
The dersert battle can begin
Barbarossa
Barbarossa (the same as above but in 32x32 pixels counter zoom)
The battle is beginning in the desert
The same in zoom level 2
The D day
The east front in 1944
The battle in Italy
Thats all in this time. I hope you enjoy this mod.
I'm still working on it. I'll post new screenshoots when something new happened.

This is very good. Is it possible to mod a bit more?
The graphics in the Purchase screen need to be changed. The above graphics would be nice.
These graphics could also be used in the Factory screen.
And agai the unit itself. The graphic in the unit information box could be changed.

Of course, i'm not finished with this mod.
I'm working on the unit information box (it's a bit longer because i must work with the "alpha" layer of the .png picture for having a design such as a Osprey book - as i saw on an advertising for this game before i bought it).
It's the same thing with the factory screen and the purchase screen.
I just bought this game the week before, but the developpers have made a good job for graphic modding. It's easy to change the design of the game.
And because the gameplay is excellent for me (remember that i like too much the old board game style - like World in Flame). I have dreamed this for a long time and Slitherine made it, a little bit perfectible, but we can easy correct what we want change in the game.
When i have something new i post the files.
Good night (in France)

I sure hope you are still working on this mod. I tried your first version here but it had a couple glitches with the German armor, continuing to show the old graphics at certain refit levels.
I love the better visibility of the different minor nations in your mod(especially Bulgaria,Romania,Hungary and Italy) and would love to have a refined version to play.

Hi,
Of course, i'm still working on this mod, but it's difficult to finish (hard to find the right drawings and testing the whole mod). I think i'll publish the terminated mod before christmas...
i'm working too on a great big third world war mod (graphics and gameplay), but it's another story...

I am so relieved to hear you are still working on this topic. As an older guy, I have gotten so used to conventional unit counters that playing with anything else is distracting and somewhat confusing. I especially hate not being able to tell garrison units from Korps at a glance.
Keep up the good work!

Hi,
I'm very happy to see that i'm not alone to love the old school counter graphics for playing wargames on computer. I am nostalgic in the days when we played the wargames on paper. I am almost finish with this mod, maybe i can publish it next week.

Hello,
This mod is ready with a lot of correction.
You can download it here : http://christiansanti.free.fr/images/unit.rar
When downloaded, you just have to decompress the files in the image/unit folder of your game
(Attention, don't forget to backup the original files if you want to go back. personnaly, i just backup the whole image folder, it's easier)
feel you free to express your opinion or suggestions here. It will make me happy.

I am now working on a second mod on the third world war (more complex because it is not just graphics but game structure too to modify...). I'll post it here when it will be ready.

Thanks, Damastabongo, I tried your mod last night and it works great. If it is not too much trouble, would it be possible to have the Axis minor allies, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, with slightly different colors so I can more easily differentiate them on the map? I like to play with the nationalities grouped and it is hard to tell one from the other when they are all gray.
The new pictures associated with the unit counters, btw, are exceptional. I have nothing but admiration for people with the graphical skill to make something good look even better!

hello,
Thanks for your comment. I would be happy to change the colors of the minor countries but it seems that it is hard coded in the game. The fact that i find is that the color of minor countries depend on the friendly relation of these countries with the major one (in your example : germany), so they take the color and the unit icons of the "big brother".
You can see icon's nation by the little round flag on the left down corner of the square for the moment...

Oh well, of no real matter. I am playing the game with another mod which turns off the national flag after movement, so you can see my 'problem'. After movement, refit or upgrade, I can't tell minor axis units from German.
Thanks again for your great work damastabongo!

Is it possible to have west and east faced German units? Also SU units could look at the west?
